When you understand why you practice, you’ll know how to practice, too.
It is just not that hard! You, in every aspect, are the one who makes that decision – the decision to be a successful chiropractor with the ability to change millions of lives. For every person you share the miracle of chiropractic with, they will share it with 10 more. So start taking responsibility for that goal right now.
There are two important things you need to know and execute to be effective and successful, and they are very similar in nature.
The most important thing is to find your passion. Do you have certainty, confidence, faith, and belief in what you are doing?
Finding that “something” inside yourself is a revelation that will not only change you but it will also exude from you when you interact with every person you meet. For most people, that something starts in school. But what is that something and how do you develop it?
It starts with the blood, sweat, and tears you experience when you put everything you have into bettering yourself and your circumstances. It’s getting up for 7 a.m. classes and staying late to close the clinic down.
It’s studying into the early hours of the morning and on weekends, the extra seminars you attend, the exhaustion, the disappointment, the relationships you build, the mentors you develop, and the lives you save.
Finding that something in yourself as a chiropractor is instrumental in your success after school. You need to put your hands on as many patients as you can while you are in school and in out- patient clinic. You do that by talking to everyone, whether they want to listen or not, and seeing how many different patients you can find.
No matter what the patient’s situation, complaints, or symptoms are, go into every situation knowing that chiropractic will help them. Do not allow yourself to limit the power of an adjustment.
It is our responsibility to deliver an adjustment and let the body heal itself in the way it knows how. When you realize this, instead of wondering if and how you can help, you will see miracles.
Once you see the effectiveness of what you do, you will build a much stronger belief system. At first, this may amaze you but it will develop into the passion that you need and that is needed by everyone you meet.
The second critical thing to under- stand is that you have everything you need to start a practice. Know this truth and own it: Some doctors work in huge practices that have everything you can imagine, and some work in a room with just a table. Realize that people come to you because of who you are, not where you are or what you have.
When you are thinking of opening your first office, forget having a huge executive suite. A powerful lesson to learn is that even if you have the biggest and most expensive office you can imagine, if you lack purpose, intent, and passion, you will not save lives.
As a student or a new graduate, do not stress about what you need and how you will start. Work on your self and remember that you are the most important piece.
Of course you will learn, grow, and change during your entire career. You need to believe in everything you will do as a chiropractor. You won’t have to fit any type of mold, design, or protocol – just be yourself. If you know your reason for practicing chiropractic, then everyone else will know, too, without even having to ask.
