I’m Mariah Leann Brown, ND, DC, CMT. I graduated from National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) with two doctoral degrees: naturopathic medicine (2022) and chiropractic medicine (2024).
My alignment with naturopathic medicine roots itself in the therapeutic order that is the driving force behind the theory and methodology. Being able to incorporate soft tissue manipulation, create holistic treatment plans and form a path to healing and wellness that addresses both mind and body is what began my interest in this field.
After my ND graduation I took a break from school to rest, recharge and reflect on whether I still wanted to pursue my DC degree. During this time I completed a six-month Mastery in Transformational Training (MITT) experiential leadership program. This magical experience reignited my childhood dream of moving to the West Coast and finishing what I had started with school. Completing my DC became a huge “of course!” that would expand my scope and marketability.
A new direction
I transferred from the NUHS campus in Illinois to the Florida campus, where I would eventually complete my DC. Being closer to friends, family and the sun was refreshing and provided a welcome balance to the stressors of the new environment, new teachers and new ND title. Classes were challenging in that first semester, but I felt at ease in the clinic. Having prior experience working with patients and using the charting system was a huge advantage.
Although chiropractic adjusting was the emphasis in this clinic, I found myself gravitating toward patients who were seeking more nutritional-based care. I made it a point to join as many patient visits as possible to learn from my peers and work with a variety of people.
After nine months of rigorous training in the student clinic, I was blessed with a new opportunity for growth with a preceptorship in Los Angeles, where I completed my internship hours.
Bringing it all together
Since graduating this past December, I’ve been checking off the final state requirements for licensure. I’m in the process of building my own practice to serve locals in the Los Angeles County Beach Cities and surrounding areas. My vision is to create an environment of health, sustainability, accountability and abundance in both my personal and professional life.
My practice emphasizes the determinants of health above all else and working with patients to take control of their lives while addressing musculoskeletal and other concerns as appropriate. This patient-empowerment approach is heavily influenced by the personal development course I completed in my time between degrees.
I now volunteer with fellow coaching staff to support individuals in discovering and breaking through limiting beliefs and developing themselves as future leaders.
I’ve always believed in leading by example, and this is something I am committed to practicing every day in all aspects of my life. My intention is to be a source of health not just for patients, but for all those around me by prioritizing my own nutrition, hydration andsleep, and setting bold goals to become the best version of myself.
The responsibility I take for my patients and those I mentor motivates me to continue to push myself, and it fills my heart with joy to witness the transformations of those around me.
