HIPAA Version 5010: enforcement begins June 30

June 23, 2012 — The grace period for HIPAA Version 5010 compliance will come to a close on June 30.

In a few weeks, CMS’ Office of E-Health Standards and Services (OESS) will begin to ensure that electronically submitted claims are submitted in the 5010 format. If you are not sure if your office is fully prepared for Version 5010, ACA has created a HIPAA Version 5010 Implementation Checklist to assist members with the transition process. Making the transition to Version 5010 is not only important, but an essential step in moving to ICD-10 which is slated for implementation on Oct. 1, 2014.
