HHS releases final rule on essential benefit design in health reform

Chiropractic Economics Staff February 24, 2013

February 24, 2013 — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently released its final rule on essential benefit design — virtually reconfirming the administration’s initial policy that shifted determination of the issue to the states.

The rule did not touch upon the all-important subject of provider non-discrimination, Section 2706 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, but HHS did state that the provision will be addressed in a separate rule. ACA’s Health Care Reform Task Force is reviewing the new rule and will be relaying any concerns directly to HHS.

Read ACA’s initial letter to HHS on the rule, when it was first proposed, here.
