Herbalife’s Gerry Holly, Metagenics’ Jeffrey Bland receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Chiropractic Economics August 6, 2012

August 6, 2012 — Dual Lifetime Achievement Awards were bestowed by Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) to Herbalife’s Gerry Holly and Metagenic’s Jeffrey Bland, PhD, at the 15th annual NBJ Summit in Dana Point, Calif., July 26.

“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to honor two tremendous leaders in our industry,” says Tom Aarts, co-founder of NBJ Summit and member of NBJ’s Editorial Advisory Board for Lifetime Achievement Awards. “Both Gerry and Dr. Bland are a tremendous force for the industry and very deserving of our highest praise.”

Behind every industry is that one person that makes the engine turn and that person is Holly. For more than 50 years he has been the brain behind nearly every aspect of manufacturing supplements. And although he has worked at major companies including Sandoz, Pharmavite, Rexall, and Herbalife, his expertise in manufacturing has benefited a vast majority of companies throughout the industry.

Responsible for coining the term “functional medicine,” Bland will forever be recognized as one of the key figures in the nutrition industry who opened the eyes and minds of healthcare professionals to the power of good nutrition and functional medicine. A former head of the Department of Nutritional Analysis at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine and former professor of biochemistry at the University of Puget Sound, Bland is an internationally recognized leader in the nutritional medicine field with expertise as a nutritional biochemist.

Also honored publically at the ceremony, receiving NBJ’s 2011 Business Achievement Awards included: Michael McGuffin with American Herbal Products Association (Efforts on Behalf of the Industry), DSM (Scientific Achievement), Annie’s Homegrown (Management Achievement), Jeffery Bland, PhD, with Metagenics and MetaProteomics (Education), Standard Process (Organic Excellence), Herbalife (Growth Large Company), VMI Nutrition (Growth Mid-Size Company); and for Deals of the Year: DSM’s purchase of Martek Biosciences Corporation; Glanbia plc’s acquisition of Bio-Engineered Supplements and Nutrition; Dupont’s purchase of Danisco; and Pfizer’s sale of Capsugel to KKR & Co.

Nominations for the 2012 NBJ Business Achievement Awards will be accepted in October at: newhope360.com/nbj. Past award categories have included: Growth in Large, Mid-Size, and Small Companies; Wall Street Award for Stock Performance; Scientific Achievement; Investment in the Future; Personal Service; Deals of the Year; Environment and Sustainability; Management Achievement; Education; Philanthropy; Product Merit; Organic Excellence; and Efforts on Behalf of the Industry.

NBJ is the premier publication for the nutrition, natural, organic, dietary supplement and integrative medicine industries. NBJ’s Business Achievement Awards give recognition to the industry’s biggest leaders who have made significant impacts in the fields of health, wellness and nutrition.
