Helping Hands Gifts for Growth Grants awarded at the AMC

Chiropractic Economics Staff May 31, 2013

Helping Hands $500 Student Grant Presentation at the American Massage Conference in Atlanta. L-R - Scott Dartnall, AMC; CG Funk, Massage Envy; Roderick Howard, student winner; Camille Wiley, student winner; Marshall Dahneke, Performance Health.May 31, 2013 — Two massage therapy students received Helping Hands Gifts for Growth grants during Student Day at the American Massage Conference (AMC) May 17, 2013.

The grant program, developed by BIOTONE and BIOFREEZE, supports the professional massage therapy students in their educational pursuits or endeavors to launch a massage therapy practice. ONE Concept, the conference organizer, partnered with BIOFREEZE and BIOTONE to promote the grant program during the conference. Four additional $500 Helping Hands grants will be awarded in partnership at the September AMC conference in San Diego.

Students Camille Wiley and Roderick Howard were presented $500 Helping Hands grants by Marshall Dahneke, CEO, Performance Health.

“I am so excited to win the Helping Hands grant from BIOTONE and BIOFREEZE,” stated Wiley, a student at Southeastern Institute in Columbia, S.C. “Although I’m currently employed full time in another industry, I’ve had the desire to do something more with my life. When I made the decision last year to pursue my dream of becoming a massage therapist, I knew it was going to require a lot of hours and hard work. This put a strain on me, my family, and most definitely my budget. I have overcome obstacles along the way and have managed to remain on the Dean’s List the entire time. Winning this grant is a real blessing. I am anxious to start my new career and heal people with my hands. Thank you so much for helping me achieve my goal with you generous contribution.”

Roderick Howard is currently attending Sanford Brown in Atlanta. “My teachers recommended attending the AMC Conference knowing that it would be very informative and allow me the opportunity to meet and learn from industry professionals. It was a great recommendation,” said Howard. “I’ve always had an interest in healing and massage, and the more I learn the more I feel it’s my true calling. This grant will go a long way to help offset the cost of my equipment. Thank you very much.”

“It was such an honor to have the Helping Hands Gifts for Growth Grant Program launch in Atlanta at the ONE Concept American Massage and Chiropractic Conference Student Day,” added Scott Dartnall, president and CEO, ONE Concept. ‘The two winning students, Camille and Roderick, were so excited as was everyone in attendance. Thank you to BIOFREEZE and BIOTONE for your ongoing support of student programs and the massage therapy profession.”

Current massage therapy students can also apply online for one of four $1,000 grants at BiotoneBiofreezeHelpingHands.com. This application requires a 100 word essay on how as a massage therapist my helping hands will make a difference. A team of industry representatives will review all submissions to choose the four winners. In addition to the students’ $1,000 grants, their schools will receive a $500 grant and a $500 product package. Applications must be received by Nov. 1, 2013. Winners will be notified by Dec. 1, 2013.
