Dan: Good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to the Tuesday webinar series. Chiropractic Economics, webinar for doctors of chiropractic. I’m Dan Sosnoski, editor-in-chief of Chiropractic Economics. Today’s webinar, “Weight Loss: How the Proper Use of Herbs Can Help Patients Burn Fats and Boost Their Metabolism” is sponsored by Solutions4 and as always, our program is being recorded and will be archived at Chiropractic Economics’ website, chiroeco.com/webinar for one year. Our expert is on board here today to speak with you and when his presentation is complete, we will follow with a question and answer period. You can submit questions throughout the presentation by clicking on the appropriate icon on the right side of your screen. We will do our very best to get to all of your questions but if we run out of time, we’ll forward the remaining questions to our expert and then notify you via email when the answers are posted on our website, chiroeco.com/webinar.
Our presenter today is Wallace Nelson MD, the president of Solutions4. In addition to being a naturopathic doctor, he has a degree in nutrition and is also a certified personal trainer, certified reflexologist and an emergency medical technician. He is here to help you learn how a weight loss program can improve your practice and help your patients. Dr. Nelson, thank you for taking the time to participate in our webinar and for sharing your expertise with weight loss and helping our audience understand how they can implement this treatment modality in their practices. Before we get started, Wallace, please give us a brief background on yourself and your work with weight loss programs.
Nelson: Thank you, Dan. I’m excited to be here today. I appreciate the introduction. So a brief background on me. I have a lifelong passion for health, for nutrition, specifically sports nutrition and for the ways that are really good dialed-in scientifically sound nutrition can transform people’s lives and transform their health. I had been working here at Solutions4 for the last about 20 years but the company actually predates further. It’s a 35-year-old company, focused on clinical holistic nutrition. And over those 35 years, we at Solutions4 have worked with hundreds of thousands of individuals working to rebuild their health and rebuild their life to completely improve their wellness. And typically, we work with conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia candida and so many times weight issues, obesity, are a complicating factor for each of those things that we’re working with.
So we’ve gotten a chance to see a lot for more than three decades, and we really perfected the absolute dialed-in clinical holistic approach to dealing with and overcoming those weight challenges. So the challenges that we’ll be seeing in all the other problems that that that may bring along. What I’d like to cover today is to talk just a little about obesity, and the issue behind it, why it’s such an important one for us to get a handle on and try to help our patients with.
Talk a little bit about why chiropractic is such an incredible [inaudible 00:03:28] to be a good resource for these patients and helping them to take control of that facet of their life, and then go right on through with the specific considerations that need to be handled for successful help building weight loss, how that can be simply achieved, and what tools we have at Solutions4 to give you an easy plug-and-play system that comes straight into your clinic, doesn’t take much specific time or effort or dedication of resources from a doctor in the clinic but gives them an incredible ability to get these absolutely life-changing technologies into the hands of their patients and to help to make these incredible changes for them and improve their quality of life.
So moving on, what you can see on the screen here is a little deck of slides that are taken directly from the center’s point of view control. And what this does is give us a little bit of a visual perspective of a slice of the obesity epidemic breaking out in the United States. What we see here is slides just from 1986 to 2009. During this 20-year period is where we really see the acceleration of this obesity epidemic. But numbers have been kept for much longer than this. The CDC actually keeps stats for obesity back into the early 1950s. And if we were to look at those on a linear graph, what we see is a very, very flat rate of obesity, from the early 1950s all the way through the mid 1980s. So we’ll pick that up here in the top left corner of this chart.
And you can see in the mid 1980s, obesity really was not much of a big issue. But the most obese states that were reporting numbers that were around 10% fast forward by 8 years to 1994 and we can see a dramatic shift where even the lowest reporting states are at the same level as those highest reporting states from a mere eight years before. Down to 2002, we are entering new levels. Into 2009, you can see that the entire south area there is actually reporting at 30% obesity among their populous. And I wish I could report that things have changed for the positive since this chart was taken in 2009, but it actually is just more of the same of what we see here, continued rapid acceleration in the increase of obesity here in the United States.
In fact, the most recent numbers that I went grabbed up from CDC websites this morning is that among adults 20 and over in the United States, 37.9% of them are obese. We have finally tipped over that one third of Americans who are actually obese which gives us an overweight number of 70.7%. Seven out of ten, Americans are overweight and nearly four out of ten Americans are overweight to an extent that their obesity will cause some issues with their quality of life, potentially be a risk factor in diseases and potentially shorten the actual longevity of their life as well. Now, this is an important thing to keep in mind. So often, weight, overweight obesity, people see that as an aesthetic issue. They see that as people kind of be in different shapes and size but so often they’re missing the important fact that obesity is so much more than meets the eye. It’s so much more than aesthetic.
What we see with obesity is increasing risk factors of heart disease, of stroke, of many types of cancer. The list goes on and on as we look at diseases. And in a nutshell, we can say that nearly all causes of preventable deaths are increased in their risk factors by being obese. That is if there were any other issue that was increasing nearly all causes of preventable deaths, I think we would have outrage amongst people going out and trying to conquer that. If it was corporate pollution or something like that that was increasing the risk of all of these diseases amongst more than a third of our populous, we would have an absolute huge social movement trying to attack and solve that problem. But the fact that it’s obesity hasn’t led to the pulling together and the proper response to fix this issue in the lives of so many of our fellow Americans.
We see links to diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and depression. If you look at that chart that I discussed in the beginning from the CDC that actually shows that linear graph of Americans getting fatter, that almost flat graph from the ’50s through the mid ’80s and then a slow upturn that just is accelerating at a faster degree up and up, we see that exact same slope mirrored amongst rates of type 2 diabetes and depression. They follow hand in hand with obesity. In addition to that, we see reduced longevity in quality of life. So if we don’t actually see actual evidence of these types of disease factors, what we do see is that the overall longevity of life and the quality of life during the time we’re living are decreased.
The cost of obesity in America is estimated to be nearly $150 billion annually spent on issues relating to obesity. Medical costs are significantly higher for those obese than their non-obese counterparts. We see an increase in neck, back and joint pain. We see difficulties with basic daily life. In fact, one of the things that was really interesting, I was attending a conference on weight and obesity that brought in several members of a community who happen to be overweight or obese.
And we were doing a round table and just talking about some of the things that were of concern to them. Obviously, they had concerns with the disease factors and what not, but we really had a highlight on how an expected quality of life with comments from these panel members about how they just hoped that they’d be able to keep their health in check to be able to attend a daughter’s wedding or to see their grand children born or to be able to run and play with their grandkids, still have the health and the ability to do that. And their condition of obesity was dramatically detracting from their ability to expect those things to happen in their lives. This is definitely a problem we want to address and be of help to as many people as we can, as many of your patients as we can in helping them to overcome this limiting and disease-causing issue in their lives.
So why chiropractic? There’s so many different modalities to…different practitioners who’d have the ability to work with their patients on the issue of weight loss, from basic family positions all the way through medical specialists. On the other side, we see nutritionists, we see personal trainers. So why is chiropractic kind of uniquely situated to be able to, I think not only a resource but in my opinion the most valuable resource to reach out to members of this community of Americans that are suffering from obesity. So let me take a look kind of separately at those other two options. If we take a look at nutritionists and personal trainers, generally they’re working in a setting, in the gym and whatnot that does not attract those individuals who most need the help.
Now when we take a look at the demographics of those who take advantage of the work of nutritionists or who are frequent goers to the gym, typically they’re people who are in okay shape and don’t include many members of that obese population. So they may have experienced. They may have opportunities but it’s very limited by the fact that they don’t draw in those who most need the help. But we take a look at the other side of that spectrum at your family practice physicians and a lot of the medical profession, the primary modalities in which they deal being chemical pharmaceuticals and surgical interventions are not typically very successful in treating lifestyle diseases especially those related to obesity. We don’t really have an anti-obesity pill yet.
They have developed a number of different pharmaceuticals that nip at the edges and address the symptoms here and there but addressing the overall condition of obesity, they have not had a lot of success being able to effectively treat that. Same thing with surgery. We know that there are extreme intervention surgeries where they are able to intervene in the case of severely life-threatening obesity and do things like lap bands, gastric bypass and make an acute intervention into starting that journey back from obesity. But I’m sure you like I, know many people who either have suffered really horrible complications in that type of approach to obesity or have gone to the extreme of having that type of acute surgery, had temporary benefit and then found a way basically to return to, if not fully the level of obesity they were at, nearly that, following that procedure. And it’s not a procedure that can often be done twice.
So what we look at is the proper intervention for changing a lifestyle and building an actual wellness and health improving and lasting results of weight loss and an escape from obesity. And that’s where chiropractors fit into the absolute sweet spot to be able to deliver that care to their patients. Many who suffer from obesity have other conditions that will drive them pretty regularly to chiropractors. We talked about the increase in neck, back and joint pain. The increase in overall pain. Things like peripheral neuropathy where they may be actually already seeking out the help of a chiropractor as the caring and knowledgeable professional to help them with those particularly joint pain, neuropathy type concerns. And you are in an ideal position to be able to treat them as a whole individual and address the root course of many of these issues along with the interventions you’re able to make for the condition for which they presented in the first place.
So let’s talk about kind of the healthy way of achieving wealth management, excuse me, weight management. The first thing I’d like to talk about is the shortfall of some traditional approaches. You know, we see basic advice that comes up all the time. People are saying, you just need to try to eat a little less, maybe try to get active and go on a walk and do those things. This really, although it’s rooted in good intentions and it’s rooted in…it actually does not deliver the level of health that somebody truly suffering from obesity needs
. First of all, it doesn’t take into account at all the lack of basic knowledge that that individual may have to begin their journey. We can say try eating a little less, but they may not have the information on exactly what a little less is. They may not have the information on which food choices are the proper food choices to make to really address the issue of their obesity. They may not know how to safely begin any type of activity in exercise program.
And we see that because of that, even though that well-intentioned advice is… advantage of that advice and begin and move towards that healthier direction
Also often times with that traditional advice of just getting and moving and eating a little less, typically initially slow results cause a real loss of motivation. You know, it’s disappointing to feel like you’ve made a big change in your lifestyle, and you’re watching the scale and having very modest returns for that effort that you’re putting into changing your life. We wanna be able to give people much more immediately noticeable and dramatic results in the beginning of that process to keep them going through.
Moving on to that traditional approach, a lot of times this leads people to kind of be seduced by taking different types of shortcuts. Taking shortcuts like a lot of the stimulant-based fat loss products that are on the market. You can take these thermogenic fat bars, all those sorts of things. And what we see there is that the stimulants in those products are increasing the load on our already compromised system. So when we talk about those who are obese probably have an increased likelihood of heart disease, cardiovascular issues of numerous origins, stroke, and you really don’t want to be dumping a lot of stimulants into a system that is already potentially compromised. It can be a dangerous situation.
In addition to the stimulants, we see a lot of extreme caloric restrictions. These are extreme caloric restrictions diets on their own or even many of the diets that accompany often times things like HTG treatment, you know, where we’ve got people on 500-700 calories a day. That’s functional starvation. What that does is it causes nutritional complications. We quite honestly are malnourishing these individuals who are at a compromised health state already by causing that severe caloric restriction. So they obviously have a lot calories on board in the shape of fat storage where they are able to go about their daily business burning fat and having enough energy to do those things but they’re drastically lacking the nutrients that come with this food they should be eating in a higher caloric intake for things like cellular repair. They aren’t getting enough protein and amino acids to actually rebuild land maintain the muscle.
And so often times what we see is wasting of muscle being a very large portion of that weight. And when it comes to weight loss, we don’t really just want to see a lower number on the scale. We want it to be a healthy weight loss. So what we want to do is loose excess body fats without losing any more than necessary of healthy tissue, of lean tissue specifically their muscle mass. Their muscle mass is important and vital for their health. So it’s vital to preserve that. It’s also is the engine which will drive their metabolism in the future, it will make losing weight easier. It will…That muscle mass is what’s going to help keep a patient from plateauing in their weight loss and it’s what going to leave them at a point when they’re, quote and quote, “finished” with their weight loss journey of having a metabolism and a body that is capable of sustaining a low weight.
Because of the muscle wasting that often accompanies these very low caloric restriction diets, we see a much higher likelihood of yo-yo in those individuals. They lose a lot of weight and they lose it fast but they also gain a lot of weight back and they gain it back fast and often times more weight than where they started. This really all points back to the fact that in that journey to bring the number on the scale down, they lost so much of the muscle that was helping to charge any type of metabolism that when they return to a normal or slightly elevated caloric diet, the weight comes on faster than it ever has before. We talked also about a shortcut of surgical interventions. That is definitely not without risk. There’s an increased risk of mortality and injury with surgery in those who are severely overweight as well as post-surgical for those who are able to get through. We see a lot of very unique vitamin deficiencies that accompany those who have had surgeries such as gastric bypass, can cause some real problems down the lines. So we want to avoid those types of radical shortcut interventions. And often it’s possible and really do things the right way.
So talking about what doing things the right way means. To me that really comes down to supporting the natural processes of the body, really working to build health and wellness which will support healthy and long lasting weight loss. We also want to prioritize fat loss and preserve muscle. We want them losing weight but not indiscriminately. We want them losing the unhealthy weight which is the fat weight in their bodies while preserving as much of the healthy lean tissue as they can. And an additional issue to kind of consider there is that we want to be able to handle the removal of fats soluble toxins that accompany somebody with a particularly large amount of body fats.
So let’s talk about that for a moment with detoxification. Detoxification is becoming a real buzzword. It’s something that we’ve been working with at Solutions4 for more than three decades. Back in the old days, we had to explain to people what detoxification was before we were able to tell them how we could help them with it. It was not just in the common lexicon. That’s definitely changed. People are aware of detoxification. They know it’s something that’s important for the process of the body but is something that is particularly important in the case of those who are obese are looking to lose weight. Through daily life, you know, through all sorts of toxic pollution in the air we breathe, in the water we drink, processing and chemical addition to our foods, the over 70,000 petrol chemicals that have entered our environment in one form or another that we become in contact with, our bodies are loading up toxins at a rate, and to an amount that’s really never been seen before. We just accumulate so many of them.
And the real issue that needs to be paid attention to is the difference between fat-soluble and water-soluble toxins. Those toxins which are water soluble, which are many are actually quite easily removed from the body. It’s a very easy simple natural detoxification process that’s ongoing all the time and does a great job of removing those water-soluble toxins. Well, we run into issues with toxins that are fat-soluble. And I mentioned those 70,000 petrol chemicals. One of the most damaging things about them is that they are fat-soluble toxins. And they tend to dissolve into the fatty tissues of the body, whether that’d be stored fats or fatty portions of organs, those toxins actually dissolve into that fat and are retained there. Our body is using water as their primary cleaning method and it does not remove those fat-soluble toxins very well. It’s akin to trying to clean an oily frying pan at a sink full of plain water. Water does not handle those fat-soluble things very well.
And because of that, these fat-soluble toxins permeate the fat and make that fat even more resistant to being removed by your body because it’s a toxic condition. Our body wants to try to lock away those toxins and fats. So what we see is these fat cells that are full toxins surrounded by waste waters and you’ll essentially bury three level deep trying to hold on and keep those toxins contained which leads to even more stubborn fat loss. And it’s an issue that needs to be address before we’ll see really healthy and long-term fat loss, not just weight loss, but fat loss coming off of the body.
So our preferred method for losing weight is what I term preferential fat burning, just meaning we wanna get in and we wanna remove the fats and preserve the healthy tissues. And we don’t want to lose that muscle. That’s our farness to lose fat through the process. That’s our ability to keep fat off long-term in the body. So we want to do things that really prime the body for fat loss. So I like to say something which I’ll probably repeat, I’m gonna talk a lot about supplements here the next few minutes. And it’s important to remember that supplements are just that. supplements are products made to support and supplement healthy diets.
So whenever I’m talking about these things, I’m not at all implying that someone can continue about a completely unhealthy lifestyle and just introduce a few supplements and have that make all the differences. Those types of promises have lead people to be very disappointed and not be able to reach the results they really need in their life for a long time. We don’t ever want to get into that trap of claiming that our supplements can do something that no supplement can, which is completely override the basics of their physiology and build a healthy body without paying attention to that most basic building block of diet. So the general rule of thumb that I always use is, you cannot out-supplement an unhealthy diet. So the things I’m going to talk about will be in addition to help you guys draw recommendations.
But when we talk about preferential fat burning, there’s four specific ingredients I like to mention here. One is conjugated linoleic acid. The other is chlorogenic acid. And 7-Keto DHEA and exogenous ketones. And those four ingredients in combination actually do a fantastic job of bringing about this condition of preferential fat burning. They prime the pump to reduce storage of fat, to increase the rate at which fat is being used for energy, and they really grease the wheels for us to be able to accomplish that fat loss rather than just indiscriminate weight loss which is health building.
So first of all, conjugated linoleic acid. It’s a natural occurring compound which in relation to fat blocks the growth of new fat cells. So it’s going to keep you from growing new cells to deposit fat into and it increases the speed of fat metabolism in your body. It’s increasing the rate in which we are able to get in and burn and use that body fat. Moving on to chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is a compound that actually naturally occurs in coffee beans. You can’t just drink coffee and get any effective dose of chlorogenic acid though because chlorogenic acid is actually rendered inactive during the roasting process of coffee. So in order to take advantage of that, we need to use a green coffee bean, an unroasted coffee bean. So you really can’t drink it but we are able luckily to use as a very effective supplement.
It’s benefits work to actually increase overall weight loss. They work with glycemic control, that being the body do a better job of controlling its sugar levels and it’s insulin levels. And it actually inhibits glucose production in the liver by gluconeogenesis. So all of those are very positive indicators to being able to accomplish a good preferential fat burning weight loss. Moving on to 7-keto. Seven-keto is a metabolize of DHEA. The job that it does with weight loss is that it actually raises the metabolism set point. So we’re going to turn the hit up, turn the speed up a little bit without the use of stimulants. We’re just going to naturally make the body run at a higher and more efficient level of metabolism. What this does is that it leads to that condition we are looking for of more muscle and less fats.
Moving on to some of the exogenous ketones we can add, they help to regulate…Sorry excuse me. They help to regulate adiponectin. They actually break up fats inside the fat cells. So, you know, within fat cells because we have all this liquid and they can get locked down pretty tightly but those ketones will just get in and kind of dissect, cut up those lipids within the storage fat cells and make them easier to release and to be available to burn. So moving on from some of those specific ingredients, we are going to introduce some product in just one minute. We need to talk about rebuilding with nutrition. As I mentioned, you can out supplement a poor diet. It’s important to make sure we have a great basis of solid nutrition to support hormonal health, to support good quality which if hormones can slipper off almost anything we are trying to do to really bring about a big change in someone’s life and then their obesity will be short-cutted by the lack of quality sleep and poor hormonal health. So we need to make sure the dietary necessities are there to support good hormonal health.
And also we want to provide the highest quality protein that we can while someone is on a weight loss program to ensure that we are not losing that lean muscle mass that we are getting all the nutrients needed to really support the retention of that muscle mass, building of health of that muscle and all of the vitamins, minerals required for every process of health so that we have a healthy process. And a healthy individual will come out the back end of this weight loss program rather than just a thinner sick individual which is so often result of many other ways to get at this. So that nutrition is gonna be an important piece.
And we approach it in a couple of ways. First all, with some very simple healthy dietary recommendations focusing on whole foods. It’s not a giant exhausted list that will be drinking from the firehose for your patients. It’s a very simple kind of green, yellow, red. You know, foods you should focus on, foods that are okay in moderation and foods that you can avoid. And it’s so simple to be in a card in your wallet and give all of the help that your patients need to really focus on a healthy diet. It’s so, so simple to follow and incredibly effective. And then we back that up with some great nutritional supplementation to make sure we’re filling in all the gaps.
Those said were some of the basic principles. I’d like to jump in just a little bit and talk about what makes Solutions4 different and unique in a world very crowded with nutritional supplementation and then some of the specific products that will be the most beneficial to bring in to your practice, to help your patients struggling with obesity. As I mentioned, there’s a million different nutritional supplement companies. And you can find them everywhere. From gas stations, to grocery stores, to Wal-Mart, online in a million places. So what is it that makes a clinical level holistic product like Solutions4 different than a lot of the, you know quite honest, junk that you find on the shelves of stores. A lot of the junk that we saw pulled out of stores in new york state as the attorney general issued a cease and desist because they were ineffective products not containing the ingredients that were listed on the labels.
So so many people do it poorly. How do we do it incredibly well here at Solutions4? That all comes down to our commitment of quality. The place that that begins is with an absolute obsessive level of attention paid to the quality of the ingredients that we use. Good supplements, good medicinal herbs are nothing more than very, very concentrated healthy foods. Foods that make a difference in your body and in your life and lay the ground work needed for your body to make the changes we are looking at but at the base of their foods. And with any type of cuisines, you can’t take poor quality food and turn it into a gourmet meal that will build health and be delicious. The same thing happens with supplementation. We must start with the absolute best ingredients.
And we do that by sourcing nearly all of our ingredients from organic farmers here in the state of Utah where we’re headquartered. Utah has an interesting very diverse series of climates. And the benefit of that is that we can grow nearly any medicinal herb within a couple of hours of our lab here in Utah which means that our lab personnel can actually get out boots in the dirt on our firm and check everything to make sure it’s being done exactly as we expect out, from soil preparation to planting of the seeds, to care of the plants, to harvesting, to drying. We can watch that entire process and ensure that it’s being done absolutely properly.
Of the ingredients that we can’t get here in the Utah, which are not many, we get all of them except for one in the United States. And that again allows us to have great control over our supply chain and insurance of that absolute highest quality before those ingredients ever show up on our labs. The one ingredient we get outside the United States is actually the protein that we use in one of our products which we get in new Zealand and I’ll a little bit more about that in a couple of slides from here. But following that obsessive attention to the best quality ingredients, we actually do bring those into our labs. At the lab that obsessive attention to quality does not stop. We take those top quality ingredients and we test them. We test them for cleanliness, we test them for quality, we test them for purity, and we test them for efficacies.
So we actually isolate the specific vital chemicals in each of those medicinal herbs that cause the beneficial results that we want to see with that ingredient and we test to make sure that those are in range that they’re going to cause the desired effect. They’re potency to actually do what we want them to do. We then quarantine all those ingredients for a period of time and test them again. We quarantine them again, we test them a third time. So we have this redundant testing. And what this redundant testing does is first of all, it ensures that we haven’t missed anything in the quality of those ingredients. It ensures that we haven’t missed any type of potential contamination and it also ensures that that potency is staying consistent from test to test to test over these quarantine periods. Because what that tells us is that the preparation and drying of the ingredients has been done properly so that they’re not slowly loosing efficacies.
If the drying process is not done right in medicinal herbs, they get slightly less effective day by day as they are mixed into formulations, as they are shipped to a warehouse, as they’re shipped to your clinics, as you send them home to your patients, they degrade a little day by day and by the time your patient finishes that bottle, it’s not as potent as it needs to be to get the desired effect. So that’s all the attention we put into quality. But we’re also equally attentive to making sure we deliver the ingredients where they’re needed to make a difference. I used to say something along the lines of your grandmother was right. You are what you eat. And I had a very smart individual catch me on that. He said, “With all due respect you’re wrong. You are not what you eat, you what you digest.” And you know what, he was more right than I was. You can eat something but if you do not digest it, you don’t actually get the benefit of having eaten those healthy ingredients.
I often say a picture is worth a thousand words. So when we’re finished with the webinar open up a browser either on your computer and search vitamin tablet x-ray. And what you’ll see is a whole page full, on a Google image search, of x-rays taken of individual with handfuls of their vitamin tablets left undigested in their colon. No more digestion to come. Really no benefit at all taken from having used those products. And tablets are just incredibly difficult to digest for a tone of reasons, more reasons than we have time to go into here. But the highlights being that medicinal herbs are really nothing more than powdered dried leaves. And powdered dry leaves are really not very sticky at all. So if you’re going to try to take powdered dry leaves and compress them into something that sticks tougher like a tablet, you have to add a lot of junk that makes that tablet work, that doesn’t really add to the health of the product. You have to add things like fillers and binders and glues that you lack and also sorts of things just they’re there to make the tablet work.
And often times we see half of the actual volume of that tablet being made up by the ingredients to hold the tablets together, not the ingredients meant to build your health. Following that, it’s put into a tablet press machine and subjected to tens of thousands of pounds pressure to compress it down into this little rock-hard tablet. What that means is that it’s something that’s very, very hard to digest. You know, we’re taking the easiest thing in the world to digest which is leaves, powdered leaves and we’ve turned it in to something that, especially those who are digestive compromised which is interesting people that are around well and people that are obese in your office. They very likely are digestive compromised and we’re trying to give them something to build their health that they have little chance of actually digesting and having benefit them at all.
So what we do is we don’t use any tablets at all in Solutions4. Everything that we present for you to use with your patient is either in a powder form, you know, it just mixes it with water and is consumed that way, or it’s actually dry herbs formulas which are, there’s no fillers, there’s no binders. It’s actually 100% effective medicinal herb in what we call the cap which is a vegetarian fiber capsule. The benefit of that vegetarian fiber capsule is that the vegetarian fiber begin to digest upon contact with your salivary amylase. So you put it in your mouth and you’re 60-90 seconds from that capsule dissolving and those medicinal herbs being delivered to your digestive process. So you will never, ever see a Solutions4 product in an abdominal x-ray like you would with the vitamin tablet. All because it doesn’t matter how good our products are on the nutritional supplements panel if they don’t actually get digested and get to the cell where they’re needed to make a difference in their health.
So those are the steps that we take to make sure that our quality and efficacy are unmatched, unrivaled in the field of a clinical nutrition. We use these products in a wide array of modalities that can be easily employed within a clinic. We have comprehensive programs for weight loss, for candida, obesity. As I mentioned at the start, fibromyalgia, arthritis, peripheral neuropathy. We have programs built for each of these conditions that are very, very easy for your put in and nutritionally support any of the other treatments that you’re offering there at your clinic. We have the simplified weight loss solution for patients. And this includes all of the things that I just kind of talked about needing to address for healthy weight loss. From detoxification to some of the preferential fat burning, to the delivery of high quality protein and vitamins and essential nutrients into the diet.
So first, let’s take a look at the seven-day cleanse, our quick start clean. This quick start cleanse really is built to help to remove all those fats that I was discussing. Remember those get in, they’re stubborn, they actually slow or stop the loss of retained body fat. This works as a solvent to those fat-soluble toxins and allows your body to remove those fat-soluble toxins, detoxify the fats, detoxify every organ and system in your body and really deeply cleanse your colon to get a good foundational starting point for a healthy weight loss program.
And secondly we have the weight loss starter kit. The weight loss starter kit is another one of our quick start easy…And it contains a lot of those ingredients I talked about, [inaudible 00:41:38]. And we have these green coffee bean extract with chlorogenic acid, ketones, 7-keto DHEA. The creatine control actually has a mild appetite suppression on the front end that is backed with a blood sugar balancing component that helps to manage the blood sugar which actually reduces the incidence of feeling hungry. So it has a front-end suppressing and a back-end appetite appeaser that is a huge help in someone that is trying to enter into a healthier eating diet than they had previously been practicing.
The last piece I talked about, there was a nutritional shake. This nutritional shake is our foundational nutritional product and as I said, it’s made with grass fed organic, free range, no injections, lactose-free, casing-free, weight protein from New Zealand. Is the most easily digestible, the most widely usable protein that is very high in high quality blood amino acids? It delivers nutrition like nothing else with those amino acids. Backing that up is a full range of vitamins and minerals, digestive enzymes and it actually was the very first shake on the market that includes probiotics for your digestive health. They’re enterically courted probiotics. As you swallow them, they are not damaged by your digestive process in your stomach and they don’t open up until they hit your gut which is actually where you want those cultures to be delivered. And they’re delivered in suspended animations. They’re delivered completely viable and ready to implant and colonize and do all the benefits that we want to be able to expect from our probiotic cultures.
This gives us our full take on weight loss kit. You can see it’s a very, very simple three step process of cleansing beginning preferential fat burning support with their quick start weight loss and nutritional support with the shake. If you pair this with the simple card in your pocket dietary suggestions I mentioned earlier, it is a potent, easy to use, easy to understand, so easy to implement in your clinic approach to weight loss with all of your patients. In addition to weight loss, we offer kits, nutritional support…practice. Dan: Okay, well, thank you very much Dr. Nelson. This has been quite informative. And just as a note to our audience, I always make a point of stopping by your booth when I see you guys at the conferences and your shakes are really good. [inaudible 00:47:47].
Nelson: They are. I forgot to mention that in addition to being really awesome nutritionally, they actually are tasty and you won’t have a problem getting people to drink those.
Dan: Yeah, and some of the other things they can taste chalky or what not. But you were not overselling your product at all. We have one quick question from the audience, and this was a good one because it’s a common. A doctor asks, “I’ve heard people say that the only thing needed for weight loss is to less and exercise more and you’re saying it’s more involved than that.”
Nelson: It is. To run back just a little bit, that’s the old standing advice that people saw often. It’s just as simple as eating less and exercising more. But the real pieces we are missing is the tools in information needed to bring all that together. You know exactly what does that mean for a patient. We don’t want them to simply just go out and eat less calories. What we want them to do is be eating less junk, eating more healthily, making sure they’re getting a lot of bang out of the nutrition that they’re including into their diet. It’s doing the most possible for their health without any of the excess calories and junk that have helped to lead to that situational obesity. And as far as moving more, that’s something that sounds so simple on its surface but much more help is needed to help people understand the preferential healthy way to do that.
And as I mentioned the introduction of proper supplementation will help them get more out of those successful intervention once they do make them. Once they do make a good healthy change in their diet, once they do start to get a little physically active, what we want to make sure we are doing is that we’ve given them the tools and products in hand to make sure the weight they’re losing is fat, is unhealthy weight, to make sure we are nutritionally supporting them hormonally so we don’t short circuit their weight loss. And to make sure we’re supporting the retention of all of that healthy lean muscle mass that will be the engine that will drive their continued weight loss, that will give them immediate results that don’t weigh in within two or three weeks and helps to keep them motivated and seeing the effect and feeling the positive effects of the body that they’d like to.
Dan: Okay, thank you very much for that Dr. Nelson. At this time, we would like to thank our sponsors, Solutions4 and Wallace Nelson for today’s webinar and thank you all for attending.
