In April, Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) student Lindsey Wendland, a trimester eight student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program, received a Future Leaders in Health Professions scholarship.
The Kansas Independent College Association (KICA) got more than 150 student nominations for the merit-based award, a CUKC press release noted. It awarded new scholarships to 17 KICA-member students in April 2025.
CUKC’s Lindsey Wendland was convinced she could make a difference through the chiropractic profession, although her path to Cleveland University-Kansas City was atypical. She entered the CUKC program after spending the last decade overseas as a military spouse.
“It sounds cliche, but chiropractic actually chose me,” she said.
Discovering chiropractic care
Previously, she had undergone chiropractic care following a minor car accident, which greatly assisted her recovery.
“Every time I left his office, I felt amazing,” Wendland said.
In 2022, her husband was assigned to Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force Base. As she explored options for fulfilling her healthcare education, her searches brought Cleveland University-Kansas City into focus. Wendland said she excited to find a chiropractic college so close to her new location.
“I was instantly drawn to the CUKC high board pass rates, the accelerated curriculum, and its proximity within a 1.5 hour drive,” Wendland said.
After graduation, she plans to start a family practice focused on wellness and supporting military communities.
“With my deep connection to the military over the last 16 years,” she said, “I feel a calling to give back to these populations.”
