Cleveland Chiropractic College interns assist with large health fair

Chiropractic Economics July 23, 2011

healthfairJuly 23, 2011 — Interns from Cleveland Chiropractic College were among more than 1,000 people who attended the “Touchdown Family Fest Citywide Free Health Fair” on July 16 at Arrowhead Stadium.

Made possible through a partnership between the Kansas City Chiefs and Truman Medical Centers (TMC), the program was started in 2010 to promote health and wellness in the community.

A wide range of activities took place at the fair, including sports physicals, organ donor awareness, vision screenings, dental screenings, diabetes counseling and healthy cooking demonstrations. Clevelanders performed blood pressure checks, posture analysis and body mass index assessments for those in attendance. In addition, there was live entertainment and appearances by KC Wolf, the Chiefs Cheerleaders and former Chiefs players Dave Lindstrom and Ed Budde.

Cleveland intern Traeger Tvedten felt it was a good opportunity to serve the community and promote chiropractic. Beyond that, it allowed he and his 13 fellow interns the chance to enhance their interpersonal skills while helping others.

“Being able to meet-and-greet the public is exactly what students need to better their communication and marketing skills,” Tvedten said. “It was great to experience a community event where we could help educate the public about healthier lifestyles.”

The Chiefs and TMC conducted the event as part of their “wellness tour” to educate people of all ages about the advantages of a healthy lifestyle. All events on the tour include Chiefs personalities and members of the TMC staff who work together to coordinate similar gatherings throughout the year.
