ccording to researchers at Wake Forest School of Medicine, bacteria that make up the gut microbiome may be the culprit. In a review of more than 100 current published studies in humans and rodents, the School of Medicine team examined how gut bacteria either enhanced or inhibited a drug’s effectiveness. The review is published in the Dec.11 edition of the journal EBioMedicine.Christina DeBusk
Diabetes diagnoses increased more than 380 percent between 1988 and 2014, according to statistics compiled by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This condition now afflicting more than 30 million adults and children in the U.S. alone. The ADA further states that this medical condition characterized by higher-than-normal blood sugar also takes the lives of more Americans per year than breast cancer and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) put together.Tina Beychok
Your patients with diabetes know how serious this chronically debilitating disease can often be. However, if we look at the national statistics for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the stakes quickly escalate. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) estimated that more than 30 million Americans, or more than 9 percent of the population live with diabetes. Of those 30 million cases, almost 1.5 million will represent brand new cases of diabetes that are diagnosed for the first time in any given year.James Sweeney
Feature You don’t have to choose to see people with diabetes in your practice; however, the prevalence of the disease among the population means you almost certainly already are. Now, an increasing number of practitioners are making the management of diabetes and prediabetes part of their practices. Their reasons for this are multiple. For one, their help is certainly needed. Nearly 1 in 3 Americans is diabetic or prediabetic, according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.Chiropractic Economics
More than 100 million U.S. adults have diabetes or prediabetes, health officials say. As of 2015, more than 9 percent of the population—30.3 million—had diabetes. Another 84.1 million had prediabetes, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Tuesday. People with prediabetes have elevated blood sugar levels, but not so high that they have full-blown diabetes, which requires medication or insulin injections. With exercise and a healthy diet, prediabetics can halve their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
