Biotics Research Corporation provides certification of authenticity to fish oil products

Chiropractic Economics Staff August 23, 2018

August 23, 2018—Biotics Research Corporation, a company whose motto is “The Best of Science and Nature,” becomes the first supplement brand in the United States to provide certification of authenticity to their fish oil products, verified by ORIVO through an independent third-party authenticity test. Together, ORIVO and Biotics Research are raising the standards for quality, transparency and sustainability in the global omega-3 space.

The recently established test, which is the first of its kind in the industry, is able to verify both ingredients and end-consumer products, including concentrated fish oil. A substantial R&D effort, which has been partly funded by The Norwegian Research Council and Innovation Norway, has formed the basis for the test. The testing technology is based on proven NMR analysis combined with a strong database of known reference samples and powerful analysis algorithms. With this new tool in hand, ORIVO is now able to verify marine species and the region of catch, simply by testing the product off the retail shelf.

Biotics Research Corporation is the first U.S. supplement company to start using the authenticity test for all of their products containing fish oil. Their fish oil products claim to use an anchovy source from the cold waters of the South Pacific Ocean off the South American coast. For the first time, it can be verified through a third-party test that their products are authentic.

“This is obviously of tremendous value for our customers who now can be certain they are getting the highest quality omega-3s available when they buy our fish oils,” says Denis DeLuca, president, Biotics Research Corporation. “We have never had doubt in our suppliers; rather it confirms that we are using the best suppliers.”

Biotics Research, together with ORIVO, is setting a new international standard of transparency for omega-3 products. “The industry has a growing concern for sustainability issues.” DeLuca continues. “Having a certification that shows our fish oil is, in fact, coming from sustainable sources is very important to us, and partnering with ORIVO to establish authenticity in our fish oil sourcing is a natural fit for Biotics Research.” ORIVO is very happy to be entering the U.S. market. Along with several European omega-3 brands, Houston area-based Biotics Research Corporation is now the first U.S. brand to start using the world’s first test-based origin certification.

“The certification process has been a satisfying journey, particularly when working with a responsible and reputable company like Biotics Research Corporation. We have learned that Biotics Research is synonymous with innovative concepts, and the introduction of the ORIVO authenticity certification is indeed innovative. We are, of course, very satisfied with the partnership, as should be the Biotics Research customers,” says Svein Erik Haugmo, CEO of ORIVO. ORIVO offers subscription programs with random analysis and mandatory next-level-in-value-chain checkpoints, batch certifications, product verifications (with possibility to use the verification logo on the label), as well as product screening and benchmarking. All services have special sampling routines solving third-party sampling challenges.
