Beware: Internet extortion scam targeting doctors

Chiropractic Economics April 30, 2011

April 30, 2011 — It has been brought to the American Chiropractic Association’s attention that the website, www.complainonline.net, lists numerous doctors of chiropractic, by name, as under investigation for various crimes. Those responsible for the scam then email the listed doctors and — for a $250 fee — offer to represent them to help secure the removal of their name from the site and avoid embarrassment and lost patients.

If you are listed, or if you receive one of these emails, DO NOT SEND MONEY! The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Oregon Attorney General have advised doctors to file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center, a partnership among the FBI, the National White Collar Crime Center and the Bureau of Justice Assistance. An extortion case can begin after enough complaints have been filed.
