Academy Award winner to speak at NCLC 2013

Chiropractic Economics Staff February 20, 2013

February 20, 2013 — The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) announced that Academy Award winning producer and director Don Barrett will be a featured speaker at its 2013 National Chiropractic Legislative Conference (NCLC) and Educational Symposium, which takes place March 6-10 in Washington, D.C.

Barrett is the force behind the upcoming PBS documentary “Pain in America: The Silver Tsunami,” which explores the problems the U.S. healthcare system will encounter in meeting the needs of 79 million baby boomers who will turn 65 years old between now and 2029.

“‘Pain in America’ will provide the public with an in-depth look at how the services provided by doctors of chiropractic might help alleviate the strain that the ‘Silver Tsunami’ will have on our nation’s healthcare system,” said ACA President Keith Overland, DC. “Additionally, as our nation’s government continues laying out the details of the healthcare reform law, this thoughtful look at one aspect of the solution, combined with a strong display of unity and activism from the chiropractic profession, will make an important impact on Congress.”

While the PBS airdate for the documentary will be announced in the weeks ahead, an extended preview will debut during NCLC, on March 9, at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Barrett will also speak on March 7 at the NCLC General Session.

NCLC is the chiropractic profession’s most important public policy and educational event. For more than 30 years, hundreds of doctors of chiropractic and chiropractic students from across the country have gathered in Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress to discuss the issues that matter most to DCs and their patients. In addition to the advocacy on Capitol Hill, NCLC offers DCs information on new opportunities inMedicare, military and veteran’s health care, national health care reform and other federal initiatives.
