The American Chiropractic Association Sports Council (ACASC) recently honored Scott Mooring, DC, CCSP, ICSC, as Sports Chiropractor of the Year, celebrating his exceptional contributions to sports chiropractic and his dedication to advancing the profession.
The award recognizes Mooring’s decades-long commitment to improving athlete care and his leadership in chiropractic sports medicine, noted an ACA press release.
A legacy of excellence in sports chiropractic
Mooring’s career is defined by his dedication to evidence-based, patient-centered care. As the team DC for the University of Minnesota Athletic Medicine Department, a position he has held since 2014, Mooring has worked closely with Division 1 student-athletes, athletic trainers and medical professionals. He has played a pivotal role in optimizing athletic performance and injury recovery for teams in multiple sports, including wrestling, track and field, hockey and football.
Mooring is also the president and clinical director of Back in Balance Chiropractic & Rehab Clinic in West St. Paul, Minnesota; the clinic made Minnesota Monthly’s Best Chiropractors list for several consecutive years.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mooring is a mentor and educator. Serving as an adjunct professor and clinical faculty member at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota, he has trained more than 75 doctor of chiropractic students, helping ensure that future practitioners are well-equipped to meet the challenges of modern sports medicine.
Sports care on a global stage
Mooring’s impact extends beyond the US. He holds an International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic (ICSC) and has represented chiropractic care at global events, including the World Sports Games and USA Gymnastics Olympic Trials. His expertise in sports injury management and corrective exercise has made him a trusted resource for elite athletes competing at the highest levels.
Commitment to professional development and advocacy
Mooring’s leadership roles reflect his commitment to advancing the chiropractic profession. He serves as chair of the Clinical Compass, where he contributes to the development of chiropractic guidelines and best practices. His previous roles as ACA’s Minnesota state affiliate representative and vice chair of the Clinical Compass highlight his influence in shaping policy and promoting evidence-based care.
In addition to his recognition as ACASC Chiropractor of the Year, Mooring was also honored as Sports Chiropractor of the Year by the Minnesota Chiropractic Association in 2018 and inducted as a Fellow into the International College of Chiropractors (FICC) in 2020.
In his acceptance remarks, Mooring expressed gratitude for his colleagues, students and the patients who have inspired his work. According to the press release, he noted that he is not done yet because there is so much more to accomplish in the chiropractic field, research and the world of sport.

About the American Chiropractic Association
The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) is the largest professional chiropractic organization in the United States. ACA attracts the most principled and accomplished chiropractors, who understand that it takes more to be called an ACA chiropractor. We are leading our profession in the most constructive and far-reaching ways — by working hand in hand with other health care professionals, by lobbying for pro-chiropractic legislation and policies, by supporting meaningful research and by using that research to inform our treatment practices. We also provide professional and educational opportunities for all our members and are committed to being a positive and unifying force for the practice of modern chiropractic. Visit acatoday.org.
