A letter from the editor: The Wellness Issue

Gloria Hall May 19, 2025

A letter from the editor, issue 8
GLORIA N. HALL | Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to Issue 8 of Chiropractic Economics

Issue 8, The Wellness Issue, brings together leading experts in health, nutrition and wellness, exploring the important role chiropractic care plays in promoting overall wellness. Today’s DCs are constantly redefining holistic approaches to health and well-being with new, innovative techniques and right-on-the-cutting-edge technology. It’s an exciting time to be a healthcare practitioner.

First, get patients sleeping better

According to Luke K. Barr, MD, “Embracing a comprehensive approach to sleep has the potential to transform people’s health and well-being, empowering individuals to thrive and live life to the fullest.” Understanding and addressing sleep issues with your patients is an important component of your recommended treatment plan. Barr continues, “Sleep exerts influence over an array of physiological functions that are fundamental to holistic wellness.”

Pursue a healthier physique

“Natural methods to enhance GLP-1 production, such as dietary changes, probiotics and regular exercise, offer promising, sustainable alternatives with fewer risks and costs,” according to Robert Silverman, DC. By focusing on gut health, optimizing mitochondrial function and supporting appetite regulation through lifestyle interventions, it is possible for your patients to harness the power of GLP-1 to improve overall health and longevity without relying on expensive medications.

Research has shown myostatin inhibition can be an effective way to promote muscle and bone health. Chris D. Meletis, ND, suggests creating custom plans that combine this intervention with lifestyle approaches, such as resistance exercise and eating ample protein, to help your patients achieve excellent results.

Rest and digest

Emerging research suggests CBD may enhance the functioning of the vagus nerve, a key player in digestive health, contributing to better gut motility, reduced stress and improved inflammation control. Joe Kryszak, MBA, provides insight into the relationship between the vagus nerve, digestion and CBD, highlighting how you can integrate this knowledge into your practice.

Customize, automate and grow

Chiropractic wellness care has evolved into a sophisticated, diverse industry integrating science and technology with holistic approaches to health. Advances in genomics, artificial intelligence and big data are pushing the wellness industry toward ultra-customized healthcare. As we move forward, says Kevin Wong, DC, wellness will likely become even more personalized, more preventive and more seamlessly woven into everyday life.

Incorporating a monthly wellness membership program into your chiropractic practice is good for your patients’ long-term health—plus, it’s a smart business move. “With recurring revenue and loyal wellness patients,” writes Naota Hashimoto, DC, “you can stabilize your income, increase patient retention and have the opportunity to focus on growing your practice.”
