A letter from the editor

Gloria N. Hall and Allison M. Payne November 3, 2025

Welcome to Issue 17 of Chiropractic Economics

Which takes an inside look at the integration of laser therapy into chiropractic care. To support this issue, I am excited to share insights from health and wellness expert Robert G. Silverman, DC. Read on to discover his personal take on “why the time has come to declare DCs are the practitioners of longevity.”

The conversation

Longevity has become the incisive conversation of 2025. Patients, practitioners and policymakers are searching for proven ways to add years to life and add life to years. The pursuit of vitality and resilience raises two fundamental questions: What technologies and therapies can help us reach our longevity goals? And which type of practitioner is best positioned to deliver them in a patient-centered, effective way? In my view, the answer is clear: DCs are uniquely suited to be the true practitioners of longevity.

Natural gatekeepers of longevity

As primary contact providers who emphasize prevention, you already stand at the intersection of structural integrity, functional health and lifestyle medicine. We are trained to evaluate movement, musculoskeletal health, neurological integration and overall systemic balance—factors that directly influence how well our patients age. Unlike disciplines focused solely on pharmacology or acute intervention, chiropractic care thrives in the proactive domain, supporting health before disease manifests.

Longevity, then, is not merely a buzzword; it is the very ethos of our practice. By promoting spinal alignment, optimizing nervous system function and encouraging lifestyle transformation, we help patients maintain vitality across the lifespan.

The role of low-level laser therapy in longevity

Among the tools available to modern DCs, non-thermal, FDA-cleared low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has emerged as one of the most potent and versatile modalities. Its mechanism is elegant yet profound: Light energy penetrates tissue, is absorbed by mitochondria and initiates a cascade of biochemical processes that enhance ATP production, reduce oxidative stress and stimulate tissue repair. For the chiropractic profession, this technology is transformative. It allows us to extend our influence beyond musculoskeletal complaints and into regenerative medicine, functional neurology and healthy-aging care.

Lifestyle hacks: Amplify the chiropractic advantage

Of course, technology alone is insufficient. Simple, evidence-based interventions—movements that enhance mobility and balance, nutrition strategies that reduce inflammation, sleep hygiene to regulate circadian rhythm and stress-modulation techniques to preserve neuroendocrine health—are all well within your daily scope. These “lifestyle hacks” are accessible, affordable and cumulative in their effect. When paired with chiropractic adjustments and LLLT, they form a powerful triad that supports the patient’s long-term vitality.

A new identity: DCs as longevity leaders

The conversation around longevity is not slowing down—it is accelerating. Health-conscious consumers are demanding practitioners who can bridge the gap between prevention and performance, between today’s science and tomorrow’s vitality. If you embrace this role, we can become recognized as the go-to providers for longevity care.

I’d like to thank my guest editor, Robert G. Silverman, DC, for sharing his thoughts on laser therapy and the transformative treatments on the horizon in 2025 and beyond. I hope this collection of articles clarifies the role of laser technology in chiropractic care, from age-defying regenerative procedures to more rapid, targeted injury recovery.

To your health, prosperity and success!
