Welcome to Issue 13 of Chiropractic Economics
Which brings together top experts to share their take on the latest tools, technology and techniques available today to advance your practice and help more patients. Topics in this issue cover the benefits of integrating structural and neurological approaches in your practice, the pros and cons of developing your own app, the evidence-backed uses and benefits of laser and radial shockwave therapy and the support for science-backed probiotics. In addition, our experts tackle some important practice building and management topics, including the latest retirement considerations, key updates to HIPAA, the evolving landscape of injury care and recovery and what you need to know and do now about artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to remain compliant.
Beyond the spine
While spinal alignment remains the cornerstone of musculoskeletal health, extremity adjustments can be equally critical. In this issue’s feature article, expert Mark N. Charrette, DC, shares emerging research and clinical insights into the lower extremities, feet, knees and hips, and their role in maintaining structural integrity and neurological balance. “To resolve your patient’s chronic pain and enhance patient outcomes,” writes Charrette, “it is essential for you to understand the biomechanics, neurophysiology and clinical practice evidence supporting this integrated approach.”
Attack arthritis pain with laser therapy
Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the US, with one in four adults (nearly 60 million) living with the painful, sometimes debilitating symptoms of some type of arthritis. Research shows the benefits of using laser therapy as an alternative treatment for arthritis. “By incorporating laser therapy into your patients’ treatment plans,” urges leading laser expert Rob Berman, “you can help reduce inflammation, increase metabolism, improve nerve and vascular function and enhance cell growth.”
Discover the new shockwave
A popular shockwave therapy gaining ground in chiropractic is radial pressure wave (RPW) therapy. Delivered via pneumatic or electromagnetic generators, RPW therapy has emerged as a strategic first-line shockwave application. According to author Christopher M. Proulx, DC, “RPW therapy offers patients a hands-on, sensory-engaging treatment that complements traditional manual techniques and enhances clinic efficiency and scalability. It is not only accessible and cost-effective, but physiologically appropriate for addressing superficial pain, neuromechanical tension and soft tissue reactivity.”
Tech triple threat approach
The incorporation of laser therapy, vibration therapy and pneumatic compression devices presents promising advancements that enhance the outcomes of recovery. In his article, Brian Hortz, PhD, presents a comprehensive review of these emerging technologies and critically evaluates the existing research to provide insights into their efficacy and prospective applications. “The next decade is expected to bring about a new frontier in musculoskeletal rehabilitation,” writes Hortz, “and when combined with advanced technologies, you can deliver superior outcomes for the patients you serve.”
Cutting-edge research and applications
Research has shown probiotics can exert benefits beyond the gut by helping alleviate chronic, low-grade inflammation. In her article, Lexi Loch, ND, takes a deep dive into probiotics, presents the latest science-based research on the microbiome and illustrates how probiotics are transforming patient care. “As research continues to expand,” said Loch, “the therapeutic applications of these microbes will only become more pronounced and offer new insights into supporting patients with acute and chronic health conditions.”
To your health, prosperity and success!
