CBD remains a hot topic moving into 2022 as the federal government considers making CBD legal across the board…

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration made little progress with federal cannabinoid (CBD) legislation in 2021, so many states took CBD regulation into their own hands. States boosted an already-hot market for CBD as consumers clamored for gummies, tinctures, lotions and more to combat pain, inflammation and more.

The most popular CBD articles on Chiropractic Economics in 2021 included guidelines for proper dosing, deep dives into the “entourage effect,” what CBD experts see in the future, CBD’s calming effect on anxiety and muscles, and more.

Here are the Top 5 most popular CBD articles from 2021:

5. Helping patients determine safe CBD oil dosing for pain

By CHRISTINA DEBUSK
While CBD offers patients one more avenue for treating or managing a variety of conditions, the ability to purchase these products doesn’t come without its challenges. One of those challenges is there are few dosage recommendations because CBD is not currently regulated … The form of CBD can impact dosage too. A patient may benefit from taking a certain dosage of CBD oil, yet need more or less if using a salve or lotion, for instance.

4. A Guide to Cannabidiol (CBD) Safety for Health Care Professionals

By CBD CLINIC (sponsored content)
Pharmacokinetics describes interactions that end up affecting serum levels of a drug with the result that drug concentrations at the site of action are altered. The potential for pharmacokinetic interactions increases when substances that are taken together share pathways of absorption, distribution, metabolism, or excretion.

3. The entourage effect explained: legal THC benefits in CBD

By TINA BEYCHOK
Some of the more intriguing research regarding the question of ratios is also looking at what is known as the entourage effect, or how not just the proper ratio of CBD to THC can serve to enhance the overall effectiveness, but also the role of the other cannabidiols and terpenes in the cannabis plant … However, the other terpene compounds work to enhance the effects of the CBD or THC, just as an entourage of backup singers help enhance the lead singer’s voice.

2. CBD business expert panel: 2021 industry outlook and beyond

By RICK VACH
“If the doctor does not sell it, the consumer will gravitate to other sources. That is a fact. Those other sources can, at times, not represent the best choice for the consumer.” … “We can expect that 2021-22 will bring growth based on a deeper appreciation of the concept termed ‘Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency‘ that is based both on the concept that just as a person can experience adrenal fatigue, so can they experience a dysregulation and diminished resilience of their endocannabinoid system from ongoing stress and demands.”

1. How CBD works as a natural muscle relaxant

By CHRISTINA DEBUSK
One of the primary ways that CBD contributes as a natural muscle relaxant is through inhibiting the release of secretions known to induce muscle rigidity and spasms. Many pieces of research have studied this effect on people who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease in which the immune system attacks the central nervous system’s protective covering. This often leads to movement-related issues, including tremors and an unsteady gait.
