October 29, 2010 — The International Chiropractors Association’s (ICA) Council on Fitness and Sports Health Science is pleased to announce that essays are now being accepted for the 2011 Arnold Schwarzenegger Scholarship Essay Competition.
The deadline for submission is Feb. 12, 2011. This competition is open to all members of the Student International Chiropractors Association (SICA), and participants are asked to submit an essay on the theme of, “The Human Spine – A Structure Designed to be in Motion.”
This theme has been chosen to focus students’ attention on the relationship between healthy exercise and a healthy spine. Candidates are encouraged to use their imagination, creativity, and the research record to develop an original paper, not to exceed 1,250 words, excluding references and footnotes.
Winners will be selected by a five-member panel, with submissions blinded to assure objectivity. Awards will be of a minimum of $1,000, but are variable up to $2,500 depending on the number of winning applications submitted.
The successful applicants will be awarded their scholarships by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and ICA Fitness Council President Dr. Gerald R. Mattia at the 19th Annual ICA Symposium on Natural Fitness and Sports on March 5, 2011 in Columbus, Ohio. The successful papers will also be published by the ICA.
“The ICA Fitness Council is very excited about the 2011 opportunity for SICA members, both because it is a unique opportunity for our students and because it is another demonstration of Governor Schwarzenegger’s commitment to chiropractic,” said Dr. Mattia.
“ICA is very proud to have such a special relationship with the world’s most famous chiropractic patient.” The fourth Annual Arnold Schwarzenegger Scholarship was awarded in 2010 at the Columbus ICA Symposium by Governor Schwarzenegger and Dr. Mattia, the honors going to Student Doctor Andrew Schieber, a student ICA member at Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa.
