Scrape-Tape-and Move

July 29, 2017

$299

This 8.5 hour course provides a scientific and practical method that introduces an integrated approach to restoring and maximizing the human movement system. Participation in this workshop will give the healthcare provider a better background and knowledge in not only analyzing the functional aspect of human movement, but also in identifying impairments to the human movement system and recognizing the pathomechanical impairments that will most benefit from rehabilitative strategies.

This course will give a brief history and overview of human movement assessment as well as the concepts behind treatment planning and prescription (including the 4 x 4 matrix of exercise planning) to correct for movement dysfunction. The participants will learn how to perform a quick assessment of movement using the base assessment from the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). Once dysfunction is identified, the participant will be taught how to differentiate a mobility restriction into either a joint mobility dysfunction vs. a tissue extensibility dysfunction. Soft tissue pathology plays a primary role in limiting mobility which affects human movement. This course will cover the theory and intervention strategies for identifying soft tissue restrictions utilizing Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) techniques. The participants with be shown techniques and receive hands on instruction to help restore normal joint mobility and tissue extensibility with the goal being to improve the dysfunctional movement pattern. As mobility is restored, postural and mobility reinforcement techniques such as kinesiology taping will be covered and practiced.

Following discussion on motion restoration techniques and postural reinforcement, the emphasis will shift to designing exercise progressions in order to restore and advance functional movement patterns. A simple approach based upon evidence based clinical reasoning utilizing neurodevelopmental theories of human movement will be used to formulate exercise progressions. Techniques will be taught in a “hands-on” format to ensure that participants develop treatment skills that can be instantly utilized. Participants will learn strategies to improve joint mobility, ROM, and therapeutic exercise for every patient population by utilizing a full body approach.

This course features HawkGrips Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) tools and TheraBand Kinesiology tape, which uses exclusive “XactStretch” technology to ensure the right amount of tape tension is applied. In addition, attendees will learn the science and techniques behind the revolutionary TheraBand CLX consecutive looped exercise band. Musculoskeletal clinical scenarios are presented with an integrated management approach. Following this course, clinicians will have a better understanding of how to integrate these methods into treatment of musculoskeletal patients.
