The participants endured extreme heat conditions and raised more than $5,000 to support this worthy cause. The Chiros Care running team included 63 runners/walkers, 22 staff volunteers and was sponsored by Foot Levelers who gave $1,000, an anonymous donor, and by TLK Marketing who printed the Chiros Care running team t-shirts.
The 13.1 Chicago Half Marathon started June 4, 2011 at 7:15 a.m. but was cancelled by a black flag raised at 9:15 a.m. when 26-year-old Zachary Gregory collapsed and later died. Saturday’s race had been red flagged, indicating extreme heat and runners were advised to take it slow.
All participants completing the race received medals and the donations were honored. The Chiros Care running team expresses sincere condolences to Gregory’s family for their loss.
Chiros Care’s annual fundraising goal is $20,000 and proceeds will be used to continue to bring chiropractic care to the homeless and for a future mission trip.
