March 20, 2013 — The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) announced that the U.S. Senate passed a resolution, S.Res.72, observing ACA’s contributions to the country’s healthcare system and recognizing the 50th anniversary of the founding of the association.
Specifically, the resolution acknowledges the chiropractic profession, chiropractic physicians and ACA as:
- a holistic, wellness-oriented healing art founded in the United States
- having recognized value by Congress, demonstrated by the provisions of law aimed at integrating chiropractic care into the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Defense healthcare systems
- having established a well-deserved reputation for upholding and promoting the highest ethical and professional standards for the practice of chiropractic care
Finally, the resolution acknowledges that “the Senate recognizes the many important contributions of the American Chiropractic Association to the welfare of both the chiropractic profession and our [sic] the health delivery system of the United States and recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Association.”
The resolution, which was introduced by Sens. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) — two longtime chiropractic champions in Congress — passed unanimously and was timed to coincide with ACAs 2013 National Chiropractic Legislative Conference (NCLC) and Educational Symposium, which took place earlier this month.
“Clearly the chiropractic profession’s presence on Capitol Hill during NCLC, and year-round through ACA’s ongoing advocacy efforts is paying off,” said ACA President Keith Overland, DC. “I am very proud that Congress has, again, formally recognized the value of the care that chiropractic physicians offer our patients.”
