FCA Convention 2011: Connecting with alumni and rewarding students

September 9, 2011 — The Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA) held their National Convention & Expo 2011 Aug. 25 to 28 in Orlando, Fla.
Palmer College of Chiropractic hosted two successful and well-attended events during the occasion, including a Friday evening reception and a luncheon on Saturday.

“We served 230 alumni during the luncheon, which was wonderful,” said Mickey Burt, DC, director of alumni. “We also had a constant flow of alumni and prospective students who came by the booth to talk to us. It was a very busy and successful event.”

Each year, FCA funds five $2,500 scholarships for students on Palmer’s Florida Campus. Four of the recipients were present (the fifth scholarship, in honor of Dr. James Glisson, will be awarded next term), including:

In the spring, the Mid-Florida Chiropractic Society hosts a golf tournament with the proceeds funding student scholarships. This year, the society donated $15,000 to Palmer’s Florida Campus students, funding six $2,500 scholarships. The total they’ve raised to date is $88,000, which includes $62,500 for an endowed scholarship. Two of the scholarship recipients were Sean Driscoll (Mid-Florida Chiropractic Society Gift Scholarship) and Meghan Waters (Standard Process – FCA Gift Scholarship and the FCA Dr. Ed Williams Leadership Award Gift Scholarship. Three more $2,500 Standard Process scholarships to be given out later this year.
