Parker University holds homecoming event

November 6, 2013 — Parker University’s three-day homecoming event featured the hottest and most innovative topics in the chiropractic and massage therapy professions. Speakers covered topics from chiropractic research trends and spinal decompression to deep tissue massage and somatic reflex.

Parker Homecoming 2013 attendees had opportunities to earn up to 20 continuing education hours as a doctor of chiropractic and up to 16 Texas-licensed massage therapy continuing education credit hours.

The event included numerous gatherings giving attendees a chance to reconnect and network with others. It also featured an expo that highlighted cutting-edge products and technologies and allowed doctors of chiropractic and massage therapists to experience the latest innovations in the two professions.

Homecoming attendees joined Parker alumni, students, faculty, and friends for Parker Gradfest, an event held on Friday evening with food, drinks, prizes, and entertainment.

Parker graduates had numerous opportunities to reconnect and catch up with old classmates during the Parker University Alumni Association Awards Luncheon as well as the 25-, 20-, and 10-year class reunions.

Philosophy Night was also featured on Saturday, a night immersed in chiropractic philosophy, including a special presentation by Yvonne Villanueva-Russell, PhD, an educator and international speaker. Villanueva-Russell is currently an associate professor of sociology at Texas A&M University — Commerce. Her research focuses on the professionalization of alternative medicine and the challenges that the profession of chiropractic faces as it achieves more acceptability in mainstream health care. Her more recent research focuses on the growing movement of parents who opt against childhood vaccinations.
