Northwestern Health Sciences University offers free care to military personnel

June 8, 2011 — Through the Warrior to Citizen program, Northwestern Health Sciences University offers natural healthcare to U.S. military personnel and their families.

Nearly 100 people have used the program since its beginning. More than three years ago, Northwestern joined the Yellow Ribbon initiative, which strives to help soldiers re-enter their communities after deployment, and help their families cope with their absence.

Northwestern provides military personnel and their families’ chiropractic care, acupuncture, oriental medicine, and massage therapy. Through a partnership with Adler Graduate School, Northwestern offers psychological therapy and family counseling free of charge.

“The program helps the servicemen and women,” said Louise Hess, receptionist at University Health Services. “They know that there is somebody willing to take care of them.”

Northwestern proudly continues to support the Warrior to Citizen program as Minnesota National Guard soldiers from this community are again called to serve. In May, 2,400 soldiers from the Bloomington based Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB), 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Red Bull Infantry Division were deployed in support of Operation New Dawn and will assist in the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
