The physical training to prepare for the hike included:
- Power hiking trails with 30 pounds in a backpack
- Climbing up and down steep hills with weight
- Breaking in boots with stabilizing orthotics and testing equipment in negative 20 degree temperatures
- Using a treadmill at its highest incline propped up on blocks
“My most important equipment was my footwear. I purchased a new pair of hiking boots in December and a pair of InMotion Stabilizing Orthotics,” said Moore. “Stabilizing Orthotics were essential to me because I would be carrying a pack on my back for seven days and nights through unstable footing. There were long days involved (up to 16 hours) on rock, snow, dirt, and scree. I needed something that would be durable enough to take the beating.”
Moore climbed up an altitude of 19,340 feet. One of his biggest challenges of the hike was the oxygen level. The levels were around half of what he is used to breathing daily. He wore InMotion Stabilizing Orthotics because they contain Celliant, which had the capability to help stimulate blood flow and increase his tissue oxygen levels up to 10.2 percent.
