World-renowned chiropractor, author and speaker Dr. Mark Charrette marked his 2,000th seminar on chiropractic education at a sold-out event in Minneapolis, Minn., on Oct. 24-25th. He is the owner of Charrette Chiropractic in Flower Mound, Texas, and has been facilitating continuing education seminars on behalf of Foot Levelers for 27 years.
Dr. Charette loves teaching. He is enthusiastic about sharing insights from many years of patient care with audiences, saying, “The longer I am a chiropractor, the more I realize the incredible self-healing power of the body and the overall global effects of the chiropractic adjustment on health and wellness.”
He is an esteemed educator on extremity adjusting techniques and biomechanics who has taught in 30 countries. Since he began teaching in the 1980s, countless students have benefitted from his practical, hands-on approach to chiropractic care. Through the years, he has continually developed his teaching skills and incorporated new innovations to his presentations. For example, he was the first person to incorporate videos using POV techniques.
“I have always pushed myself to become a better teacher and seminar presenter,” Dr. Charrette says. “When I started, technology was very different. I used a carousel slide system, no PowerPoints or videos. I have progressed with the current technology and have pioneered a form of learning called Deliberate Practice which involves multiple repetitions while gradually increasing speed. This enables the attendees of my seminars to achieve a higher level of clinical competence in the shortest time.”
While he was a student at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, Charette met visionary chiropractor Dr. Monte Greenawalt, the founder of Foot Levelers. Greenawalt fitted Charrette for his first pair of orthotics and mentored him on their use in chiropractic treatment. At the time, it was a revolutionary approach as chiropractic colleges didn’t support the use of orthotics, and science and research had not revealed their benefits as they do today. From the beginning, Charrette has treated patients using Foot Levelers orthotics and worn them himself. Charrette is a pioneer in making adjustment of the feet, knees, hips, wrists, elbows and shoulders part of the standard protocol for chiropractic treatment rather than an add-on service in response to pain or discomfort.
“Dr. Greenawalt is probably the first chiropractor to look at the patient from the ground up and realize that without a level pedal foundation the spine cannot optimally stabilize and balance,” Charrette observes. “He would say ‘You can’t level the roof if the basement is crooked.’ He taught me to examine a patient and include a casting of the feet, since the vast majority of adult patients over-pronate and it’s usually asymmetrical. This usually involves pelvic tilting and dysfunction up the kinetic chain. Dr. Greenawalt always spoke about honesty, sincerity and integrity, and in practice, making the patient the doctor’s complete and total focus.”
“Dr. Mark Charrette is one of the most highly-regarded chiropractors in the world and we are proud and thankful of our longtime partnership with him,” says Kent Greenawalt, Chairman and CEO of Foot Levelers Inc. “Like our company’s founder, Dr. Monte Greenawalt, Dr. Charrette is a true pioneer who has advanced the profession of chiropractic care. We congratulate him on this milestone, thank him immensely for the time and energy he has dedicated to teaching, and look forward to what we will accomplish together in the future.”
Dr. Charette is a 1980 summa cum laude graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He is a frequent guest speaker at twelve chiropractic colleges. In 2017 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Parker University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
A former All-American swimmer, Dr. Charrette has developed successful practices in California, Nevada and Iowa. He has produced a series of popular instructional videos and books that have become standards in the chiropractic profession.
