Vision Media Television Segment for the National Medical Report on Electronic Health Records

Chiropractic Economics March 26, 2008

The National Medical Report launches a new segment scheduled for the Internet, and as a Public TV documentary hosted by Mr. Hugh Downs.
Boca Raton, FL, March 26, 2008 –(PR.com)– Vision Media Television is producing a nation-wide program on “Electronic Health Records”. Electronic Health Records are simply medical records in a digital format. EHR are transforming the way that we do healthcare. They are more efficient, more economical and are ultimately improving the quality of care. The California Nonpartisan Fiscal and Policy Advisor writes, “Electronic Health Records [are] records [that] consist of electronically stored information about an individual’s health history, treatments, and other related information held by a health care provider. An EHR may include information in a variety of forms such as X-rays or computerized scan results, and EHRs of varying sophistication are possible. Some capabilities offered by EHRs include viewing patient medical histories, ordering prescriptions and lab work, and treatment advisory functions. These records are sometimes also referred to as electronic medical records or EMRs.” Senior Producer for the program, Mr. Christian Kelch, said, “Electronic Health Records are available through various software developers who are attempting to integrate all aspects of record keeping for doctors, hospitals and clinics to make healthcare more manageable. We want to target educating the consumer on issues surrounding the ease and streamlining of their patient information to make that information easier for their physicians to handle in any situation. Subsequently, their healthcare manageability will be easier all around.”

With the birth of the electronic medical record, access to patient health information has been simplified and patient safety and quality of care has improved. Included in this type of information are patient demographics, progress notes, medical problems, various medications the patient may be taking, their vital signs, past medical history, any immunizations, laboratory data and radiology reports. Such an automated and simplified compilation of patient data streamlines the clinician’s work with that patient, and improved the quality of care.

In this program they will demonstrate the positive work of Electronic Health Records in healthcare and raise awareness on this important issue for national education.
