Tools to relieve foot pain

Brandi Schlossberg April 28, 2014

Many people know the feeling of aching feet after a long day spent standing up, walking around or performing most any other such movements for an extended period of time. You may not even realize how sore and tired your feet are until you get home and slip off your shoes, then put your legs up to rest. At that point, a foot massage may sound like one of the best options in the world.

If you have a significant other, friend or family member present who is willing to rub your feet, then you should feel quite fortunate. Otherwise, relieving aching feet often may mean rubbing them yourself. Using creams that contain ingredients specifically formulated to soothe sore and tired feet may help the situation, as well. However, if you can find one or more effective tools for self-care foot massage, then you may be even more capable of relieving the pain in your own feet on those days when you have been standing up, walking around or participating in some other similar movements for long periods of time.

For example, you may wish to invest in a wooden roller, which can be placed beneath your foot and rolled back and forth for relief from pain. If you are looking for a quick remedy for foot pain from home, then try using a golf ball or a tennis ball or any other object that will fit beneath your feet and roll. Of course, there are more advanced tools available as well, such as machines in which you place your feet for an automated foot massage.

If you are finding your feet aching more often than not, even when you may not have spent an extended period of time on them, then it might be time to look into foot orthotics. Foot orthotics can be used in order to prevent a person’s feet from being in positions that will cause so much pain in the first place. For example, if you happen to have feet that roll inward, purchasing foot orthotics that can position your feet in a more optimal manner can help to prevent all sorts of issues.

If foot pain and other related problems are plaguing you on a regular basis, then consider moving beyond basic self-care tools for foot massage and look into the use of foot orthotics. A trained professional should be able to pinpoint whether the positioning of your foot is playing a role in the frequent aches and pain.
