Texas Chiropractic College partners with San Jacinto College

Chiropractic Economics Staff September 18, 2012

September 18, 2012 — Texas Chiropractic College’s (TCC) Moody Health Center (MHC) recently announced a new partnership with San Jacinto College’s Massage Therapy Program (MTP), which provides clinical and office space in the MHC for qualified MTP students participating in the required internship.

San Jacinto College’s students will be providing 50-minute massage therapy sessions at MHC on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings for just $20, or $10 for TCC and San Jacinto students.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Texas Chiropractic College and the Moody Health Center to provide even more quality healthcare options for the surrounding community while continuing to strengthen our partnership with San Jacinto College,” said Dr. Barry Wiese, TCC dean of clinics. “We are looking forward to growing this partnership and the opportunities it provides for our chiropractic interns to interact with the massage therapy interns. Together, they will better learn how to partner as professionals to provide integrative care for their patients.”

The Moody Health Center is an outpatient care facility and represents the culmination of the accredited Doctor of Chiropractic Program at TCC. Student interns, working closely with licensed attending clinicians, treat patients from the general public with complementary therapies.

San Jacinto College’s massage therapy program is an accredited program of therapeutic massage training. Graduates can complete the requirements for licensure in as little as two semesters and can be licensed and working in less than one year. As a part of the program, students will complete a 50-hour hands-on internship required by the state of Texas.

“Beginning Fall 2012, San Jacinto College students enrolled in the supervised clinical Massage Therapy Internship program will have the opportunity to work alongside Texas Chiropractic College students at the Moody Health Center, a professional outpatient care facility located on TCC’s campus in Pasadena, Texas” noted Dr. Barbara M. Hanson, vice president for learning at San Jacinto College-Central. “The Massage Therapy Internship program is a close approximation of the actual workplace experience of a licensed massage therapist. The opportunities provided by our educational partnership benefit our students and our community.”
