K-Laser USA founder and CEO Dr. Richard Albright announced today the new company name, Summus Medical Laser, in a strategic move reflecting a market leading position of excellence in laser therapy. The move comes as the organization’s worldwide medical laser sales continue to rise and as it offers new technology options, improved user interfaces and more advances in laser products.
“Summus in Latin means ‘the highest of all, superior, best of the best,’” said founder and CEO Richard Albright. “It reflects our commitment to the highest level of service, the greatest user experience and continuous innovation in our laser products — such as integration with cloud technology for practice management — always equipping our providers with the best of the best.”
The firm is headquartered near Nashville, Tenn., and has experienced 100% growth since 2014. Summus Medical Laser attributes its market success to its superior equipment but stresses their success in the medical laser industry is based on more.
“Over the last 15 years we have built a leadership position in the market based on much more than our state-of-the art equipment,” Albright said. “Our team offers invaluable service, training and guidance for existing and new customers to maximize their return on investment from the therapy laser.”
Summus Medical Laser’s flagship Class IV therapy lasers, the Platinum Series, deliver specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a photochemical reaction and therapeutic effect. Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduced inflammation, pain reduction and enhanced tissue healing. Also described as “photobiomodulation” (PBM), high-intensity lasers are being utilized by physicians, chiropractors, dentists, physical therapists, podiatrists, and veterinarians with a growing application for musculoskeletal therapy as well as cancer radiation and chemotherapy relief.
Medical laser therapy is expanding worldwide according to LaserFocusWorld stating, “Indeed, even macroeconomic softening cannot deflate the ever-expanding medical laser markets for 2019 and beyond.”
Laser therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970s and was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005. The Opioid Crisis Response Act (OCRA) was signed into law (Public Law 115-2716) on Oct. 24, 2018 and has accelerated research for many pain relief options including high-intensity laser therapy. This law broke new ground as the first legislation to mandate aggressive development and adoption of alternative pain treatments that include “innovative medical technologies for pain management.”
Summus Medical Laser’s commitment to its mission “to revolutionize medicine by advancing technologies in laser therapy” is clearly aligned to the alternative pain relief movement. The team had already begun operational changes beginning in early 2017 resulting in new manufacturing sources for its newest line of medical therapy lasers, the successful Platinum Series.
According to Albright, Summus Medical Laser has always had a market advantage as a global provider of laser therapy with its multiple strong international relationships. This laid the groundwork for providing access to the best suppliers for every laser component — resulting in the most superior lasers. More Platinum Series models will soon be announced.
Along with a new brand name, Summus Medical Laser is launching a redesigned website (www.summuslaser.com) on Aug. 5. Both current customers and new buyers will see the Summus Medical Laser brand at trade conferences throughout the month of August as the rebrand campaign rolls out.
