5 benefits of an infrared sauna in your practice

Tech Talk | As an industry marketing trend, chiropractors are increasingly incorporating an infrared sauna into their practice to both enhance patient experience and create another income stream. Far infrared radiant (FIR) heat is an energy that directly transmits and deeply penetrates into the body because of its specific wavelength. Basically, it replicates the rays of the sun’s spectrum that are responsible for photosynthesis. In fact, Native Americans have long used this healing approach in sweat lodges.

Achieve mechanical stabilization with kinesiology taping techniques

Clinical Concerns | The stabilizing system of joints is composed of active, passive, and neurological components. Stability can be thought of as: “The ability of an object to maintain equilibrium or resume its original, upright position after displacement from an outside force.” Kinesiology tape was developed to assist the neurological component of stability while allowing full range of motion. In other words, when placing tape on the skin, the nerves (mechano-receptors) in the fascia and superficial muscle are stimulated and alert the brain of activity in the region.

Are you avoiding the hazards of social networking?

Legal Ease | The internet is currently the largest source of information and with it comes the world of social media. Many people use social media for personal and business purposes because of the many benefits in using these networking applications. Social networking creates a ripple effect that allows people and businesses to share information, insights, and communicate far and wide. Social media also gives you the ability to easily communicate with patients and peers.

Be prepared with your financial investments and advisors

Money Management | Being a doctor includes the accountability of being a fiduciary, as do attorneys, CPAs, CFP professionals, and others. The prudent-person rule is at all times in effect and a fiduciary professional is required to uphold this duty and do what is best for an individual. Regardless of the financial title used, most investors fail to thoroughly evaluate if a selected financial broker or advisor is rendering accurate, unbiased, and truthful advice—or is even a fiduciary.

Charge up your chiropractic practice (and profits) with PEMF therapy

Feature | Because chiropractic is at heart a vitalistic philosophy of healing, it has a long had a connection with the ideas about electricity, a “life-force,” and healing energy. Often as not, all three ideas are comingled, and the history of chiropractic is colored with electric boxes and light-up gizmos, most of which relied on the gullibility of the general public for whatever efficacy they achieved. The case is quite different with pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy. This modality has a fairly extensive history and it has been studied and tested in well-controlled clinical trials.

Do you know the essentials of an effective foot examination?

Research Results | There are a number of components doctors of chiropractic need to consider when examining the foot for biomechanical concerns. Foremost is the need to screen new patients for the requirement for foot support and correction. This is important, because many (if not most) people have lower extremity and foot imbalances, which may be causing or complicating their spinal complaints.Often, though, patients don’t report foot problems; they only notice their back or pelvic symptoms.

Going back to school as an instructor can pay you multiple dividends

Practice Central | ow many doctors of chiropractic service as teaching faculty for healthcare profession students at undergraduate colleges or universities? Unfortunately, there are very few, which is a missed opportunity. Teaching at the under- graduate level offers significant benefits and opportunities for the DC instructors and the chiropractic profession as a whole. As you are a doctor of chiropractic, undergraduate students who are preparing for graduate degrees in healthcare can all learn from you.

Taking a healthy look at creating successful life markers

Personal Growth | Children live in a land of make-believe, a world filled with crayons, markers, and imagination. Life is whatever they dream up and describe it as. No one taught you it wasn’t real until you got closer to your teens. As an adult, you now see things differently. Your markers are no longer used for illustrating your imagination, but rather they are signposts telling you where you should be.

The most common mistake DCs make with marketing

Marketing Matters | It is amazing to see how the more things change, the more they remain the same. When it comes to marketing, there have been astounding changes in how and when you communicate with your patients and the public about chiropractic. Who knew that someday DCs could completely avoid newspaper ads, Yellow Pages ads, direct mailers, and postcards to reach patients. Or that there would be more devices connecting people than there are people. If you don’t believe it, look at the devices you use every day. Chances are good you have a smartphone, a tablet, and a computer.

What you need to know about Functional Medicine

Wellness Approach | The number of individuals who suffer from complex chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disorders is on the rise. The conventional care provided by allopathic medicine is oriented toward acute care and the diagnosis of trauma or disease of limited duration, such as a broken limb or heart attack. Medical physicians practicing in this model typically prescribe drugs or surgery with the goal of ameliorating the immediate condition and symptoms.

Yoga or Pilates: Which offers the most benefits?

Personal Growth | Chiropractors, like all health practitioners, strive to provide their patients with the best possible care. But to do so, you have to be at your best. And to be at your best, you need to take care of yourself. Mind-body techniques are one way to relax and unwind from the daily challenges of treating clients. Two of the most popular options are yoga and Pilates. But which one offers the most benefits? The answer may depend on what you need.
