Parker University School of Massage Therapy becomes first Texas institution to earn COMTA accreditation

Chiropractic Economics June 1, 2011

June 1, 2011 — Parker University School of Massage Therapy recently earned accreditation from the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), an accrediting agency that concentrates on massage therapy and bodywork education.

Parker University School of Massage Therapy is the first educational institution in Texas to earn this elite accreditation and is one of approximately 100 COMTA accredited programs in the world.

“Earning COMTA accreditation is a true testament of the education our massage therapy students receive,” said Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker University. “They graduate fully prepared to contribute to the health of their clients.”

To earn COMTA accreditation, a program or institution voluntarily participates in a peer review process designed to identify massage programs and schools that achieve and maintain a level of quality, performance, and integrity based on educational and professional standards.

“We have paved the way for increasing the standards of massage therapy education in the state of Texas,” said Michelle Yungblut, senior director of professional studies of Parker University. “This is a great step in the direction of increasing our offerings of high quality health care education as the new Parker University.”

COMTA completed an in-depth study of the quality of Parker’s massage program including its administrative practices, curriculum, financial stability, faculty competence, and more before granting COMTA accreditation.

“Becoming COMTA accredited is an incredible achievement for us,” said Dr. Drew Riffe, director of Parker University School of Massage Therapy. “We have a commitment to providing our students with an education that is like no other in Texas and this sets us further apart from other massage therapy programs. In addition, this accreditation will assure our students’ future employers that they are hiring a therapist that successfully completed a program with a rigorous standard of excellence.”
