Palmer student groups collect $2,000 worth of toys for Toys for Tots

Chiropractic Economics December 14, 2011

PalmerToysforTotsDecember 14, 2011 — Members of the Palmer Student Alumni Foundation (PSAF) spent the last several weeks collecting toys and monetary donations from students, faculty, and staff at Palmer College of Chiropractic for this year’s Toys for Tots collection by the United States Marine Corps.

Their efforts paid off as they donated nearly $2,000 worth of toys on Dec. 10. In addition, they teamed up with members of the Palmer Campus Guides to volunteer at the Toys for Tots warehouse Dec. 10.

“The reason for the fundraising is that the student leaders realize what the Davenport community does for us while we live here,” said Joe O’Tool, a current Palmer student who is the president of both the Palmer Student Alumni Foundation and the Campus Guides. “We want to be a meaningful part of the community by giving back.”

Added Devanni Partridge, who is a member of both the Campus Guides and PSAF: “Saturday, Dec. 10 was a huge success for Palmer students in the Davenport community when more than 20 current students gathered at the local Toys for Tots warehouse. We not only came with a donation of nearly $2,000 worth of toys, but we also volunteered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. sorting and packing bags for local families. It was a fun, rewarding and educational time for everyone involved as we got to experience the joy of community service and see how much can be accomplished and how many lives can be changed when everyone gives a little.”

The Palmer Student Alumni Foundation is a group of students who organize activities for students to help prepare them for chiropractic practice and to be active alumni of Palmer College. The Palmer Campus Guides are a group of specially selected and trained students who provide campus tours to visitors and prospective students, and assist in various ways at campus events such as graduations and Homecoming.

Students on Palmer’s Florida campus in Port Orange, Fla., also conducted a Toys for Tots drive. The students collected 300 toys from the community.
