When first in practice, I was told that to be more financially successful, I had to give people more opportunity to spend money in my office. What else could I give? What else do people want? After carrying various displays of pillows and other items, I found that incorporating a full line of nutritional supplements, including biomolecular “food” products for energy, fat loss and muscle gain was the ideal way to develop a tremendous revenue stream while enhancing patient results.
If your patients are not buying supplements from you, they’re going to the local store to spend money on vitamins, herbs and nutritional products. Nutritional supplements have become a hot commodity. Consumer demand for natural remedies is soaring. Supplements represent a huge portion of what the population buys. In addition, many people are interested in sports or making their bodies better. Consumers shopping in retail stores could be getting better quality, guidance and results from Doctors of Chiropractic. Instead of discussing their health with a minimum-wage clerk, they can go to a chiropractor’s office and talk to a doctor.
Who needs nutrition?
Upon incorporating an exclusive and complete biomolecular nutritional center into my practice, I am better equipped to help virtually anyone’s health needs. I chose a product line of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and herbs, plus biomolecular nutritional supplements for the athlete, as well as the person who is ill or has low energy. It is a fact that these groups need more nutrients than the average person. The best way to get the extra nutrients is through “food” that does not need to be digested; hence, it spares physical energy.
C3omputers, calipers and counsel
I determine an individual’s exact needs for protein, carbohydrates and fat with a computer program that also provides counsel on how to achieve optimum goals. This is especially useful for the person who works out six days a week in the gym for bodybuilding or athletic performance and for the person who would simply be in better health if he or she lost or gained weight.
I also use computerized calipers at the outset to measure the percentage of lean muscle mass and non-lean muscle mass. The calipers allow me to monitor as we go, adjusting supplement use as necessary. There is a direct correlation to loss of muscle and decline in health. Conversely, I see an improvement in health as muscle mass is restored.
I also have a system to look up a condition; acute or chronic, and see the nutrients and products that work best. The information is specific, not general and I don’t need to know a lot about nutrients and herbs to use it. I can quickly address infections of the sinus, lungs, skin, kidneys and maladies such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, lupus and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
How much time? Which products?
I have found that nutritional supplements are easy to sell and there is a high level of repeat purchases. I first spend about five minutes with a patient explaining the nutrient protocol they need. After that I usually don’t need to spend more time discussing nutrition, but can continue making sales.
For example, I recommend a natural anti-inflammatory ($26) for my patients with back pain, a superior bone minerals formula ($21) and glucosamine sulphate for cartilage ($36). These supplements are high quality and bring results: patients on the regimen feel better quicklywithout NSAIDS or aspirin. Most only need two or three bottles of the anti-inflammatory, then continue to purchase the minerals formula and glucosamine. While it can be difficult to convince patients to continue with adjustments, many still come in to buy supplements from me.
The rewards? Results, referrals and revenue
I spend no more time in the office, have not had to hire any additional personnel and the nutritional supplements are significantly increasing my practice’s income. When I see another patient stop in to purchase ten pounds of biomolecular nutrition powder for $149.95, I know the office just made another $75.
I now keep the office open during my lunch hours. Even while I’m at lunch, the office continues making money. Another benefit? My ability to offer nutritional counseling for athletes, overweight and underweight individuals has created a sound referral source that has sparked many nutrition patients.
However, the greatest reward to providing quality nutrients with the correct guidance for my patients is the results. I used to feel the frustration of having a patient on medication; say, for high blood pressure. Even after adjustments the patient’s blood pressure was still high. Now my recommendations of nutritional supplements that will bring the blood pressure down safely and effectively gives both the patient and I the satisfaction of better health. My waiting room is filled with testimonials and Polaroid photos of patients willing to share their new-found health with others. These are people who have discontinued medication for hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, even scleroderma. These are the smiling faces of people who have lost body fat, gained muscle mass and increased energyall feeling better! I even get calls from people who live out-of-state and have heard about my results. Since adding a biomolecular nutritional center to my practice, my reputation as a doctor has grown and I’ve developed a tremendous revenue stream.
