April 6, 2010 — The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) was pleased to honor President Michael McGuffin during the March 11 AHPA Annual Member Meeting and Breakfast for more than 20 years of service to the association.
“Michael’s commitment to AHPA and the herbal industry over the past 20 years has been nothing short of amazing,” said Board of Trustee’s Chair Katie Huggins. “He is willing to give his time and expertise to individual companies that have specific questions about the business and is able to do so without losing sight of the big picture and the broad work needed to support AHPA’s mission of promoting and protecting responsible trade of herbal products.”
McGuffin’s work with AHPA began when he joined the association as a member in the mid-1980s. He was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1990. After serving on the board for almost a decade, McGuffin was hired as its president in 1999.
AHPA is proud of what it has accomplished thus far under McGuffin’s leadership, including spearheading the request for mandatory reporting of serious adverse events; ensuring a place for dietary supplements under the scope of the National Organic Program (NOP); and providing industry with numerous self-regulatory guidances, policies and trade requirements.
