Hydroxycut: Smartphones May Play Crucial Role in Continued Weight Loss

Chiropractic Economics Staff January 3, 2013

As More Smartphone Users Are Relying on Mobile Apps to Achieve Health and Fitness Goals, Researchers Have Found That These Programs Can Help in the Continued Effort of Weight Loss. Hydroxycut Responds to the Trend, Encouraging Individuals to Explore These New Options

NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – Jan 3, 2013) -According to a recent article from the Arizona Daily Sun, an increasing number of smartphone users are reported to have been making use of mobile apps geared towards health and fitness. The article cites a recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center which reveals, “19 percent of smartphone owners have at least one health app on their devices — with exercise, diet, and calorie-counting programs the most popular.” In response to this discovery, the makers of Hydroxycut encourage the greater use of mobile apps and note that they may help individuals become more interactive in achieving their health goals.

While these apps are becoming more popular, some have wondered if they are truly effective in helping individuals achieve greater health. Another article from The Boston Globe sets to answer those concerns in a recent article, citing a recent study published in Archives of Internal Medicine. That study found that not only did participants using such apps encounter greater success in weight loss, but were able to continue their efforts long after they sought out additional coaching program assistance. The makers of Hydroxycut respond, “When it comes to pursuing a healthier lifestyle, individuals will have to make long-term changes that sometimes diet plans are not able to enforce. However, as these articles have shown, there are many smartphone apps that may help individuals develop habits that will help them form a greater commitment to well-being.”

The Boston Globe article explains how these apps assisted users participate in detailed tracking programs, “the mobile technology device enabled subjects to check their daily calorie intake and physical activity on-the-spot, which allowed them to obtain feedback and adjust their behaviors instantaneously…Those who continued going to the program and using the mobile device maintained significant weight loss at 12 months (even though the coaching calls had stopped), compared to those attending the program but not using the mobile device.”

In response to the information presented by both the Pew Research Center and the Archives of Internal Medicine, the makers of Hydroxycut conclude in a recent press statement, “Although these mobile apps can help individuals organize their plans and track progress for greater health, it is important that users understand that the app is just a part of their overall journey. It is recommended that anyone using these apps consult a physician for advice and approach their goals with a positive attitude and a strong support system as well.”
