February 20, 2015 — For the third consecutive year, Foot Levelers is the proud title sponsor of the Blue Ridge Marathon, “America’s Toughest Road Marathon.” Held annually in Roanoke, Virginia, the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon features over 7,400 feet of elevation and is one of a few marathons in America permitted to take place on National Park Service land. The 2015 Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon takes place on April 18, starting in downtown Roanoke.
Part of the marathon is run on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 500-mile long stretch of road running from the Smokey Mountains (Tennessee), through the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Proceeds from the marathon go to the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway, “a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and enhancing the Blue Ridge Parkway.”
Since the inaugural race in 2010, the event has had over $2 million in economic impact on the Roanoke, Virginia region, Foot Levelers’ home since 1988.
“Foot Levelers is proud to sponsor this event, which means so much to the Roanoke region,” Foot Levelers President Dwayne Bennett said. “What this event really does well is to get people active, while stressing the value of setting goals and honoring accomplishments. Getting people active has been Foot Levelers’ mission for the last 63 years, so this partnership means a great deal to us.”
