May 14, 2010 — The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) hosted its 84th Annual Educational Congress April 28–May 2 in Baltimore.
The conference highlighted the importance of mobility, teamwork and resource-sharing in regulation.
Approximately 120 attendees from Canada and the United States represented chiropractic licensing boards, testing, and chiropractic colleges.
On Thursday, the educational portion of the conference opened with the keynote address from Dr. Joseph E. Brimhall, president of University of Western States and of Councils on Chiropractic Education – International. Brimhall spoke about international issues in regulation and the important steps boards can begin taking to prepare.
On Friday, Dr. André-Marie Gonthier, President of the Ordre des Chiropraticiens du Québec, delivered the 20th Annual Joseph Janse Lecture, speaking about the importance of standardization of chiropractic education and practice in the international development of chiropractic.
During his remarks, Gonthier reminded attendees that “a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle,” and stressed the importance of cooperation in public protection.
Drs. Ali Jafari (NY) and Farrel Grossman were re-elected to serve as the District III and V Directors, respectively.
District III elected Dr. Kirk Shilts (MA) to serve as the alternate director and District V elected Dr. Michael Coon (SC) for alternate.The FCLB Board of Directors named Dr. Farrel Grossman to continue to serve as executive chair.
Awards and Recognition
The 2010 Dr. Earl L. Wiley Outstanding Board Award was presented to the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners for its aggressive work in reorganizing and streamlining board processes.
Dr. Daniel Saint-Germain awarded special presidential recognition to Dr. Moshe Myerowitz (ME) and Mr. Joe Baker (FL).
Pillars of Chiropractic recognizing continuous dedication to public protection were awarded to Mr. Dale Atkinson, J.D., Dr. James Knight (UT), Ms. Ruth Lemmon (WV), Dr. Carol Winkler (ND), and Dr. Ian Yamane (NV).
Dr. Saint-Germain then presented the 2010 George R. Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service to Dr. Ron Tripp (OK) for his compassion and leadership.

Next year’s meeting is scheduled for May 4-8, 2011 at the Marriott in Marco Island, Fla.
