April 25, 2012 — Parker University’s president, Fabrizio Mancini, DC, recently appeared on the Emmy Award-winning show, The Doctors. The popular syndicated daytime talk show featured Mancini in a segment focused on chiropractic and a patient’s chronic lower-back pain.
The episode’s theme, “That pain may not be what you think,” featured multiple segments emphasizing that pain in one area may actually be caused by a problem somewhere else.
During the segment, a video was shown of Mancini performing a chiropractic exam on the patient where he used the latest technology to evaluate exactly where the pain is coming from. The findings showed she was out of alignment in her pelvis, low back, upper back, and neck. Her upper back and neck muscles were also very tight.
The video also showed Mancini performing an adjustment on the patient.
Mancini and the patient then appeared on-stage to discuss chiropractic treatment and the patient’s progress. He then explained that the patient was likely suffering from numerous stresses contributing to her symptoms. For example: She has a busy travel schedule, she had previously been in automobile accidents, and she holds much stress from starting a new business, which was causing stress on her body and tension in her spine.
Mancini explained that when you look at the emotional component of stress on the body it causes tension to build up in the spine, which is the underlying cause of the pain.
“That’s what makes chiropractic a very different approach, said Mancini “We look for the cause of the problem, not just the management of the symptoms of the problem.”
Mancini also said they found she has too much sugar in her diet, which stresses the nervous system and can also create inflammation that shows up as pain.
“Stress has a physiological effect on our muscles,” said Dr. Travis Stork, co-host of The Doctors and a practicing emergency medicine physician. “When you’re stressed out, it can reflect itself in these areas of pain and I love that you take a multifaceted approach because again, it’s all of these things combined.”
An animation of the nervous system was shown as Mancini explained that the body communicates through the nervous system, sending signals from the body to the brain and vice versa.
Mancini also mentioned that many chiropractors perform adjustments using the activator, a hand-held manual device. He explained how it corrects misalignments and how it relieved the patient’s pain.
“It allowed me to correct the misalignments and that’s what gave her the relief that she now has because the cause of the pain was not necessarily her back,” said Mancini. “Actually in the exam, we found that most of the cause was coming from her upper back and her neck and some of the other stresses that we found chemically (in her diet) and emotionally.”
Mancini explained that chiropractors are trained to find the cause of that problem — subluxations, which are misalignments within the spine and then correct those misalignments.

“Chiropractic care has proven to restore the quality of life in so many patients and it is my mission to continue sharing its benefits with as many individuals as possible,” said Mancini.
