Cox® Seminar – Parts I/II Lumbar Spine

This 32-CE-hours, 4-days’ weekend course combines content from Parts I and II of the Cox® Technic Certification Course for Lumbar Spine. It is the foundational, introductory weekend to Cox® Technic and its protocols for lumbar spine and related low back and sciatic leg pain conditions. The Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management focuses on non-discogenic low back pain at Part I and discogenic low back pain at Part II. An optional certification exam (written/practical) is available. Certification includes listing in the online referral directory.
Part I Cox® Certification Course – What Is Cox® Technic and How Is Its Use Supported and Performed – 14 CE hrs
This dynamic, fast-paced 14 hours weekend is the first step to incorporating the System of Cox® Technic into your spine pain management practice. It is based on the biomechanical and anatomical published spinal literature as well as the experimental laboratory studies’ findings on Cox® Technic itself. The System of Cox® Technic uses this biomechanical and anatomical understanding as a bridge to the interpretation of the clinical examination and imaging findings to come up with a clear diagnosis of the patient’s spine pain source and condition. From this, a clear treatment plan is set forth, a treatment plan based on evidence and science.
The conditions focused on at Part I on the non-discogenic conditions like facet syndrome, spondylolisthesis, tropism, short leg, Bertolotti’s Syndrome, transitional segment, lumbago, spinal stenosis, and the like.
Hands-on protocols are introduced, demonstrated, and practiced for lumbar spine application and videotaped actual clinical patients’ examination, treatment, even education are shared.
Part II – 16 hours
Part II Cox® Certification Course – How Is Cox® Technic Applied and Integrated into a Clinical Practice – 16 CE hrs
Part I introduces the academics of Cox® Technic more for the non-discogenic spinal pain conditions as well as the hands-on protocols. Part II makes sure that the hands-on application is proper with hands-on training emphasis. Small groups lead by experienced, certified-in-Cox®-Technic chiropractic instructors focus on the application of the protocols. The certification examination is offered optionally.
Part II continues the didactic discussion of spine pain conditions with a focus on disc-related conditions and spinal stenosis. Federally funded research projects lead by Dr. Ram Gudavalli, principal investigator, are detailed with the latest updates and projects underway. Appropriate pressure application to the spine during Cox® Technic protocols are defined from the laboratory projects, presented, and demonstrated on The Cox®8 Force Table by Haven Medical. This objective tool finetunes the application of the protocols while teaching the pressure to apply to the spine during the adjustment. Part II highlights the evidence-based protocols based on research-documented biomechanical effects and clinical outcomes. For nearly 50+ years, Dr. James Cox, developer of flexion distraction, documented the effects and clinical outcomes from a clinician’s perspective, but starting in 1991 when the US government via HRSA and later NIH funded chiropractic research and Dr. Ram Gudavalli joined Dr. Cox, the research abilities really started to be interdisciplinary (with Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Hines VA, Palmer, National, Auburn, etc.) and more complex. You will see and experience how. This course is a mix of the research and clinical application for attendee implementation. A special update of the latest in lumbar spine literature regarding disc and non-disc related back pain is presented by Dr. Cox. The optional certification exam (written/practical) is available. An introductory session of cervical spine content (didactics and hands-on demonstration) and another introductory session of thoracic spine content (didactics and demonstration) round out the weekend on Sunday morning.
