Connecticut DC starts Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Fund, you can donate

Chiropractic Economics Staff January 24, 2013

276846_123466901149671_202760056_nJanuary 24, 2013 — My name is Russell Caram, DC, and I’m a chiropractor in Bethel, Conn. My town borders Newtown, Conn., and this area has been horrified by the acts of one individual last month.

In the past, the chiropractors in Bethel have banded together for the greater good — whether it’s advertising the profession, spinal screenings at schools, etc. This time it was different. We held a fundraiser for a monument/memorial to be put in Newtown, which would celebrate the lives lost Dec. 14. We did it by adjusting anyone and everyone at the town’s municipal center (neutral site), and we raised $1,700 in four hours on Dec. 27, 2012.

The Connecticut Chiro Council picked up on this and is supporting the idea of getting as many doctor’s offices in Connecticut on board to commit a day, morning, or afternoon in the month of February to adjust people in lieu of a donation to the Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Fund — a non-profit fund, which I started for this exact cause.

Having worked down at Ground Zero for eight months in 2001-2002 and seeing the waste put forth by the Red Cross and the United Way, I started this fund so that all proceeds go to the monument/memorial. The encouraged date for an office to hold a fundraising event is Feb. 2, 2013, but anytime in February is fine.sandyhookadjusting

Once I put the Facebook site up, we started getting acknowledgements from out-of-state offices in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. So now, we’re looking to get as many practices involved in this as possible.

Donations can be made to: “Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Fund.” Here’s a link to that page: www.facebook.com/events/422570011148493/.

Anyone wishing to make a specific donation for this cause can make their checks payable to “Sandy Hook Elementary Memorial Fund” and mail them to 182 Grassy Plain St., Bethel, CT. 06801.

As of now, the kind of memorial is not specified and there will be plenty of ideas as to what to do. Please be patient. If you would like to propose an idea for one, please do so on the Facebook page.

In addition, from now thru February 28, chiropractors across Connecticut will set a specific date and be asking that you stop by their offices to get adjusted in exchange for a donation specifically designated to build a memorial in the Memorial Park — when time permits.

Thank you for your help!
