March 2, 2011 — ChiroTouch, one of the nation’s leader in chiropractic software, applauds the recent efforts by The World Congress of Chiropractic Students (WCCS) to stand up and be a voice for chiropractic worldwide as they join the WFC in Rio de Janerio, Brazil on April 2, 2011.
To help the Life West chapter of the WCCS in their fundraising efforts ChiroTouch has not only agreed to help collect funds, but to match those donations collect on their behalf.
“ChiroTouch has agreed to match donations we collect in this effort towards reaching our goal of $18,000 dollars by March 31st,” commented Robert Moberg, President of ChiroTouch. “We will reach out publicly and directly to our own family of chiropractors across the country, to raise awareness and solicit charitable contributions.”
One-hundred percent f the funds raised will go to the Life West Chapter of the WCCS to fund travel and expenses for the 32nd Annual WCCS Meeting, and in conjunction with the 11th annual WFC conference, to be a voice for chiropractic in Brazil.
While chiropractic is a legal healthcare profession in much of the world, the profession faces severe forms of discrimination in regions worldwide. On June 26, 2008, doctors of chiropractic and students from Palmer College’s Clinics Abroad program were detained in Brazil on the grounds they were “practicing physiotherapy without a license.”
Currently in Brazil, 400 chiropractors are embattled against 95,000 physical therapists whose aim is to make chiropractic a “subspecialty of physiotherapy.” The mission is to build solidarity within the up-and-coming leaders of the profession by creating an awareness that going to jail for practicing chiropractic is not an issue of the past.
By this time next year, there will be new schools in Argentina, Chile and a third school in Mexico totaling seven in the region. The chiropractic profession faces severe forms of discrimination in regions of the world where chiropractic is still young. The WCCS sincerely appreciates those that give their time and consideration in supporting this cause. The chiropractic profession in the South American region is growing stronger by the day and it is their hope to contribute to their vitality.
