AECC takes home several British Chiropractic Association awards

Chiropractic Economics October 1, 2013

October 1, 2013 — The 2013 British Chiropractic Association (BCA) awards proved to be a successful one for the Bournemouth based Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC). Chiropractic leaders awarded several prizes to AECC graduates and colleagues, while the role of president of the BCA passed from one AECC graduate to another.

The evening ceremony kicked off with a fond farewell to the current BCA President and AECC graduate Richard Brown who for the last four years has made strides to maintain exacting high standards within the profession in the UK. Richard handed the title over to new president Matthew Bennett.

The evening continued with the anticipated awards section, and the first win of the night for the AECC came in the form of graduate and current PhD Research Fellow Jonathan Field. Jonathan received a fellowship for his work on NHS linked Care Response, a secure and free online tool that helps clinicians collecting Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) transparently report their results. The project is one of several taking place at the AECC which allows the college to remain at the cutting edge of the profession and is one that all faculty members heartily joined Jonathan in celebrating.

Jonathan’s success was shortly followed by the Chiropractor of The Year award, which went to 1982 graduate Nigel Hunt. Nigel has worked tirelessly to enable more patients to gain chiropractic treatment on the NHS while advising his peers on how to interact with GP’s. Nigel has also sat on the BCA Council for many years. Last year’s winner was another AECC graduate — Mark Gurden; continuing what seems to be a tradition of AECC graduates picking up the award.

Haymo Thiel, principal of the AECC said: “We always strive to produce the best, and I think that these awards demonstrate the position of the AECC in the chiropractic profession. To have our graduates leading the British Chiropractic Association, and those associated with us undertaking such exciting work, and being recognized for it at a national level, only extends our reputation as a leading educational provider.”

As the night drew to a close, the icing on the cake was the acclaimed Lifetime Achievement award which is handed out only for exceptional work within chiropractic. The award was received by Ray Broom, an internationally renowned expert on the treatment of conditions affecting extremities. Broom has his own links to the AECC, having sat on the college’s board of governors as well as previously serving as AECC clinic director.

The AECC have produced top caliber students for more than 48 years and continue to do so with support from world leading faculty. The college has a successful five year BSc/MSc chiropractic program, which is going from strength to strength and has recently seen the college celebrate the graduation of their largest ever year.
