July 23, 2012 — On June 5, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released the first of many proposed rules on the topic of essential health benefits (EHBs).
In the proposed rule, HHS outlined how it plans to collect data to support standards related to EHBs and establish a process for the recognition and accreditation of entities — for purposes of certification — as qualified health plans. Last week, ACA submitted comments to HHS and requested clarification on how “treatment limitations” will be defined in a state’s selected EHB benchmark plan.
