A practice ideas journal

Student DC March 19, 2019

A little though can spark a great idea. When we sit in classes, attend seminars, read books, and speak with others, we hear and come up with some great practice ideas. But they can be hard to recall.

What if there were a simple and effective way to remember those ideas? What if you had a place to record and refer to them later? How about a practice ideas journal? Better yet, how about a chiropractic success ideas journal? You could call it the CSI Journal for short.

Why a journal?

Journaling serves an important function in attaining success. It is something you wrote. It is a record of your thoughts and ideas and is always available for reference.

As the author Christina Baldwin puts it: “Journal writing is a voyage to the interior.”

Journal elements

The person who gets to decide what goes in your journal is you. It is all about you. This keeps you focused and keeps you excited.

Write in your journal daily. Anthony Pusateri, DC, a renowned coach and mentor, stresses the importance of recording and reviewing your journal regularly: “Place your journal on your pillow and, at the end of the day before you go to sleep, either write in it or sleep on it.” This way, you will develop a daily routine of writing in and reviewing your journal.

How it helps

Your CSI Journal is especially useful when you write down your practice ideas, the ones that have particular meaning to you. Those thoughts you think in a flash, what B.J. Palmer actually called “thought flashes.”

Everyone has such fleeting thoughts and sometimes, just as quickly, they are forgotten. Write them down in your CSI Journal or make a note on a piece of paper so when you return home you can add it to your journal. Again: “Write in it or sleep on it.”

Tune in and start listening harder to those little ideas that just pop up. Learn to capture them, and put emotion behind them.

As the author Earl Nightingale said: “The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.”

It’s about IDEAS

Take a tour of the word “ideas.” Recording your ideas will drive your:

Imagination. Take time to reflect on your practice ideas. Imagine what you will do to implement them. Then work on them one at a time.

Direction. Where do you want to go? This is a great place to start your roadmap to your dream practice. Begin with the end in mind.

Empowerment. Recording those little snips of practice-building ideas enables you to focus and stay on task. It also frees your mind to explore further. This process can be highly enjoyable.

Affirmation. When you record your ideas, declare them as a positive statement. This confirms the positive steps needed to achieve your definition of practice success.

Success. Your practice ideas, when written down, become a great tool for achieving success. It really is all up to you.

Resolve to start your CSI Journal today. Use it to blueprint the practice ideas you have. Use it to record the ideas you obtain from your peers or your mastermind group.

As your ideas increase in number, your journal will increase in value, too.
