Aetna to review denied claims
August 12, 2011 — Insurance provider Aetna, who is contracted with American Specialty Health Network (ASHN), recently agreed to review and reprocess chiropractic claims that were inappropriately denied.
The decision came after an investigation by Connecticut Attorney General, George Jepsen, referenced a state statute which shows insurers are required to provide the same amount of coverage for DCs as they would other physicians. According to the Connecticut scope of practice law, DCs are allowed to perform a large range of services including the use of X-rays, the provision of nutritional
supplements and preventive care.
ASHN will re-review claims submitted after July 2, 2011, that were improperly processed, and providers are encouraged to send any claims that should have been submitted. ACA Vice President Keith Overland, DC, who practices in Norwalk, Conn., and the Connecticut Chiropractic Association (CCA) were instrumental in bringing this matter to light.
