National College of Chiropractic
Changes
Name, Expands Program
The National College of Chiropractic further expanded its educational program offerings when it recently changed its name to National University of Health Sciences (NUHS).
The chiropractic college, in Lombard, Ill., has adopted a university model of health-care education in which chiropractic medicine and other natural approaches to healthcare will reap the benefits of an integrated setting.
"The new name emphasizes our institutional goal to offer integrated educational programs in alternative and complementary medicine so that our graduates will be fully prepared to work with other professionals within the health-care community for the benefit of the patient," said Dr. James F. Winterstein, NUHS president.
National University of Health Sciences will provide resources and support for three colleges. The College of Professional Studies will provide the professional doctoral degree in chiropractic medicine and in the near future, the master's degree in acupuncture. Within several years the doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine is expected to be offered as well.
The Lincoln College of Postprofessional, Graduate and Continuing Education will provide for residency programs, specialty programs, future academic master's degree programs, and continuing education for chiropractic physicians and others.
The College of Allied Health Sciences currently provides certification in massage therapy and will eventually add a chiropractic assistant's program and a bachelor's degree in human biology.
"Our university's graduates will be well-poised to keep up with the expanding role that alternative and complementary medicine is fulfilling in healthcare delivery today and in the future," Winterstein said.
