NPPES data now available
Data from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) was made available for dissemination Sept. 4. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid began disclosing NPPES data, available under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) via the Internet, through a query-only database, known as the NPI (National Provider Identifier) Registry.
A downloadable file will be available by approximately Sept. 11.
CMS says healthcare providers should refer to the document entitled, “Information on FOIA-Disclosable Data Elements in NPPES,” dated June 20, 2007 (found on the CMS NPI Web page) for assistance in making their edits.
