SCU faculty to receive award

Five Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) faculty members will receive the Young Investigator Award from The Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR) for their study on acupuncture treatment for cancer pain at the 2007 SAR Conference in Baltimore, Md., Nov. 11, 2007.

The research titled, “A Study on Acupuncture for Cancer Pain and Quality of Life” was conducted over the last year by lead researcher S. Prasad Vinjamury and co-investigators Ju-Tzu Li, Cheryl Hawk, Eric Hsiao, and Yu-Chih Lin Huang. The purpose of the study was to assess the effects of acupuncture on several aspects of health in cancer patients including: pain, energy, sleep quality, appetite, and performance of routine tasks.
